What are the responsibilities and job description for the Data, Analytics, Risk Engineer position at Interval Partners, LP?
About the Role
Interval Partners is a multi-billion-dollar alternative investment firm located in midtown Manhattan. We are looking for a Data, Analytics, Risk Engineer who combines technical skill with genuine business instinct — someone who can write production Python in the morning, untangle a broken data feed before the market opens, and work with the President and the operations team on AI projects and business development initiatives. The ideal candidate treats the technology stack as a core component of the operational process and is equally comfortable translating quant output into a business conversation as they are debugging an ETL pipeline.
Responsibilities
Risk Analysis & Reporting
- Maintain and enhance risk analytics workflows, exposure analysis, P&L attribution, and portfolio risk reporting.
- Source, reconcile, and analyze position and market data across Arcana, Eze OMS, and other systems.
- Provide timely risk reporting and market data to the portfolio managers and traders.
AI & Business Development
- Work directly with the President on AI projects and business development initiatives.
- Build internal agents, automate workflows, and identify where AI creates an operational edge.
- Support business development efforts with data-driven analysis, presentation builds, and market intelligence.
- Help evaluate and integrate modern technology vendors, data providers, and analytical tools.
- Translate complex technical outputs into clear narratives for investment and investor relations audiences.
Financial DevOps & Infrastructure
- Build and deploy automated data pipelines and ETL processes supporting firm-wide workflows.
- Manage integrations between Arcana, OMS, accounting, reconciliation systems, and external data vendors.
- Own reliability, monitoring, and troubleshooting of production data workflows.
- Support and improve operational infrastructure via SharePoint and Power Automate.
Data Analytics & Business Intelligence
- Design and deliver dashboards, reports, and self-service analytics using Power BI and SQL Server.
- Maintain relational databases and data lakes within the Microsoft 365 ecosystem.
- Translate business questions from investment and operations stakeholders into structured analytical outputs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in: Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Finance, or related field.
- 3–5 years of professional experience in a data, risk, or engineering role. A hedge fund, asset manager, or prime brokerage background is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in SharePoint, Power Automate, Power BI, or similar Microsoft 365 workflow tools.
Required Skills
- Strong Python skills with a systematic, code-driven problem-solving mindset.
- Proficiency in SQL and relational database design, including ERD development.
- Solid grasp of financial risk concepts.
- Proficient understanding of large language models.
- Familiarity with risk or trading systems.
- Experience building dashboards and reports in Power BI.
- Comfort using Bloomberg Terminal for market data and analytics.
- Clear, confident communicator — equally at ease in a technical and executive conversation.
Preferred Skills
- Direct experience with AI tools, LLMs, or agent frameworks (Copilot Studio, Claude API, LangChain, or similar).
- Experience with portfolio intelligence platforms such as Arcana for factor risk, and Lightkeeper for performance attribution.
- DevOps background — CI/CD, scripting, infrastructure automation.
- Understanding of hedge fund operations: trade lifecycle, NAV processes, investor reporting.
- Familiarity with SFTP-based data exchange and file automation workflows.
- Exposure to C# or additional programming languages.
