INTERSTATE Job Title: Yardman & Express Driver
FLSA Status: Non - Exempt

Summary/Objective
Yard responsibilities include storing materials, picking loading orders, inventory, forklift operation, deliveries, and customer satisfaction while focusing on safety and efficiency. Driving responsibilities include operating the express trucks transporting materials from our company yards and warehouse locations to customers’ job sites. Duties include assisting with truck loading and unloading as well as moving physical inventory while complying with all company safety policies and state and federal regulations. Essential Express Driver Functions
· Perform vehicle pre-and post-trip inspections.
· Deliver building material products to local customers.
· Provide excellent customer service while delivering products.
· Responsible for inspecting and maintaining vehicles, including regular maintenance, safety, state inspections, and emergency repairs.
· Report any accidents or delays to dispatchers or reporting manager.
· Keep detailed logs of vehicle maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs to ensure their trucks remain safe and legal to drive.
· Accurately record pickups and drop-offs to ensure the dispatcher has a record of successful deliveries.
· Pick up goods and materials, verify loads for accuracy, and deliver them as instructed.
· Utilize GPS technology to outline routes while considering weight-limits regulations on roads and tunnels, weather conditions, and traffic.
· Responsible for essential vehicle maintenance and following safe work practices, policies, and processes.
· Communicate with dispatchers and other logistics personnel while completing their routes, including sharing updates on delivery timelines, route conditions, and logging breaks.
Essential Yard Functions
· Works in the warehouse and/or yards, loading and unloading trucks.
· Check and inspect customer vehicles for accuracy of material picked up while in the lumber yard.
· Move materials to and from storage areas, loading docks, delivery vehicles, freight containers, by hand or forklift.
· Ensure yard is cleaned and maintained and that materials are stored properly, including covering materials as required.
· Maintain inventory supply counts and ensure they are properly organized in warehouse.
· Receive and process warehouse stock products.
· Perform inventory controls.
· Communicate with dispatcher to determine work assignments and material/equipment needs.
· Report all issues regarding inventory shortage, waste, damage, equipment, safety, or other aspects that affect the business to the Dispatcher.
· Keeps all machinery and tools clean and in good working order for safe usage.
· Count and write up orders.
· Maintain good working relationship with customers, coworkers, and management.
· Maintain the appearance of the yard and racks in an orderly and clean manner.
· Perform related and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
· Load and check customers at the drive-thru.
· Prepare and complete orders for delivery or pickup according to schedule.
· Inspecting paid receipt and merchandized being carried out by customers at check points in the yard.
Other Duties:
- Understand customer needs and requirements.
- Operate forklift to load the trucks if necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Competencies
Education & Experience:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Minimum of four years of experience or demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the above.
- Technical and computer skills
- Basic mathematical and measurement skills
- Ability to read and interpret blueprint measurements.
Skills, Licensing & Certifications:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills

Working Conditions & Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving forklifts, noise, vibration, and extreme weather conditions.
- Must be able to see and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Physical demands include occasional forklift driving; prolonged lifting, carrying, standing, kneeling, sitting, walking, loading, unloading; ability to lift up to 80 pounds at a time, at waist level, unassisted.
Position Type and Expected Hours
· Full-time position.
· Typical schedule: Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
· Travel: Occasional.
