What are the responsibilities and job description for the IT Director position at Interstate Engineering?

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive IT strategy that aligns with Interstate Engineering’s goals, focusing on infrastructure scalability, cybersecurity, and digital transformation.

  • Oversee the firm’s IT infrastructure, ensuring reliable, secure, and high-performing systems, including servers, networks, cloud services, and software applications.

  • Lead strategic IT projects, such as enterprise system implementations or digital platform enhancements, ensuring alignment with business objectives and timely delivery.

  • Establish and enforce robust cybersecurity frameworks, including policies, audits, and incident response plans, to protect the firm’s data and systems from threats.

  • Collaborate with the Marketing Director to enhance digital platforms, ensuring secure and efficient management of the company website, client portals, and marketing tools.

  • Partner with the Director of Human Resources to oversee HRIS system strategy, ensuring data security, compliance, and seamless integration with HR processes.

  • Manage the IT budget, allocating resources strategically and presenting budget plans to executive leadership, ensuring cost-effective technology investments.

  • Foster partnerships with technology vendors and industry organizations to stay ahead of trends, implementing innovative solutions to enhance operational efficiency.

  • Lead and develop the IT team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and professional growth, while aligning team efforts with the firm’s strategic objectives.

  • Collaborate with the Community Engagement Specialist to support technology needs for community initiatives, such as providing IT infrastructure for virtual engagement platforms or data analytics for community feedback.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (Master’s degree or MBA preferred).

  • 8–10 years of progressive IT experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.

  • Expert proficiency in IT strategy, infrastructure management, cybersecurity, and cloud computing.

  • Extensive knowledge of IT governance, compliance standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA), and industry best practices.

  • Exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and communication skills.

  • Proven ability to lead an IT department, manage complex projects, and build stakeholder relationships.

  • Experience in a professional services or engineering firm, supporting multidisciplinary teams and client-focused operations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in an office environment utilizing computer equipment and software.

  • May require frequent travel to office locations across Interstate Engineering’s 19 locations for IT oversight, project implementation, or team management, which involves walking and navigating uneven terrain.

  • Capable of lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 25 pounds (e.g., servers, networking equipment).

  • Adequate vision and hearing abilities to effectively communicate with team members, stakeholders, and executive leadership.

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to travel to office locations as necessary.
