TITLE: Area Operations Manager (Mowing) *Advanced MOT Certified Required

TRAVEL (Overnight): No
SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday and occasional weekends

The Area Operations Manager will report to the Director of Operations and oversee the daily operations of mowing crews responsible for maintaining roadways, medians, rights-of-way, and public areas in our Manatee and Polk Counties. This includes litter collection, mowing, edging, and trimming. Each morning begins with a crew briefing to review safety procedures and assign work. The manager will lead teams, ensure safety compliance, monitor performance, and submit daily operational data.

JOB DUTIES
  • Lead and supervise mowing crews performing litter collection, mowing, edging, and trimming.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and ensure satisfaction with services.
  • Manage operational budgets and meet financial goals.
  • Develop and maintain schedules to meet contractual obligations.
  • Coordinate employee work schedules and ensure adequate staffing.
  • Order supplies efficiently to avoid surplus or shortages.
  • Monitor and report operational metrics to executive leadership.
  • Identify and implement process improvements for efficiency and quality.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and traffic control procedures.
  • Train, coach, and evaluate crew members.
  • Communicate hazards or unsafe conditions to the Director of Operations.
  • Other duties and contracts as assigned.
  • ADVANCED MOT Certified required
  • Bilingual – English and Spanish preferred
  • Transportation or highway maintenance experience preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to apply understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to take a teamwork approach to the job cooperating with others, offering help to others when needed, and considering large organizational goals rather than individual concerns.
  • Ability to be self-controlled and exercise good judgement.
  • Leadership experience
  • Outdoor work experience preferred
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
  • Reliable transportation
  • General labor experience preferred

Education requirements

High-school diploma required. 4-year college degree preferred.


Preferred skills

Ability to work independently, detail oriented, operate a variety of small hand tools, two-way radio, phone and other items needed for the job.


Physical demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will occasionally be required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift up to fifty pounds; will regularly be required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms; and will frequently be required to talk or hear. Special vision requirements are close, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to walk for extended periods of time over rough, steep or uneven terrain in all weather conditions.


Work environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; and will frequently be exposed to moving traffic and outdoor weather conditions. The noise level for this environment will be loud. Requires collection of litter along roadways and rights-of-way for extended periods and in all types of weather.


LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Must have a valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
