Position Summary:
Full time 2nd shift
Laundry workers collect and sort soiled linen, load and unload machines, and fold clean linen. They distribute linens to residents while contributing to team efforts and professionally interacting with residents, visitors, and team members.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Sort soiled laundry and presoak as required.
Items are to be weighed and loaded into washers. Select the appropriate cycle and water temperature. Add suitable laundering chemical in accordance with item being washed.
Once washed, load wet linens into dryer and select appropriate drying temperature, time, and cycle according to linen type.
Sort and fold clean laundry for storage or distribute to linen carts in storage rooms.
Resident’s personal laundry is to be pressed and folded then delivered to resident rooms using clean linen carts. Check these items for repair or replacement needs as well as identification labels.
Follow Infection Control procedures for laundering isolation linens and clothing.
Drapes and privacy curtains are to washed monthly, quarterly, and as scheduled.
Escort soiled linen carts to solid linen holding area
Perform daily, weekly, monthly, and annual cleaning of laundry department. This includes floors, sinks, machines, lint traps, and carts according to the schedule.
Use and store equipment and supplies appropriately and safely to avoid injury.
Maintain good personal hygiene and adhere to uniform requirements.
Attend staff meetings and in-services as required.
Keep the Environmental Services Manager informed of pertinent events or equipment concerns.
Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
Adheres to Patient Rights and reports suspected deviations to charge nurse or administration.
Perform other tasks as required.
Required/Desired Qualifications:
Education, Training, and Experience:
High School Graduate or equivalent required.
Previous laundry experience in industrial or commercial setting beneficial
Specific skills, knowledge, and abilities:
Must have knowledge of laundry machines and chemical cleaning solutions.
Must be able to complete two loads of laundry per hour.
Communicate effectively with elderly or disabled residents, other employees, and visitors.
Dependable and work independently as well as under supervision.
Other Special Requirements:
Tolerate frequent exposure to blood, body tissues, and bodily fluids with occasional exposure to hazardous materials and infectious diseases. As well as, frequent exposure to laundry chemicals. Frequent exposure to latex, and plastic materials used for personal protective equipment.
