Road Mechanic Position Summary

The employee will be responsible to perform mechanical repairs over the road, at motor carrier yards, distribution centers and all customer locations. The employee will be responsible to perform all types of chassis repairs including specifically diesel engine repair, brake jobs, welding, cutting with a torch, tire repairs/replacements and the use of standard repair tools to repair and/or replace chassis parts. The operator is expected to be knowledgeable of, and observe, all safety rules and TRAC policies and procedures.

Road Mechanic Essential Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks

· Daily review of safety rules

· Working knowledge chassis mechanics, usage and customary repair methods

· Communicating with road service dispatchers and management team

· Container chassis repairs of various and all types

· Successful complete various training seminars related to safety and chassis repairs

Road Mechanic Qualifications

· High School Diploma or GED

· Ability to read and write legibly

· Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time

· Ability to review a written plan and execute according to the stated standards

· Ability to work within a process oriented team atmosphere

· Knowledge of AAR, IICL and DOT rules and criteria

· Must have experience and good welding skills

· Must meet minimum FMCSA requirements that are listed in the Special Position Requirements.

· Ability to function effectively in a fast paced, team oriented work environment

· Ability to meet deadlines; prioritize workloads and handle multiple tasks

Road Mechanic Special Position Requirements

· This position may require periodic support of other local TRAC M&R activities

· Must have tool box and hand tools for container chassis repairs

· Must have valid driver’s license

FMCSA Inspection Requirements;

· Understand FMCSA container chassis inspection criteria and be able to identify defective components

· Be knowledgeable of methods, procedures, tools and equipment used when performing an FMCSA chassis inspection

· Be capable of performing an FMCSA chassis inspection by reason of experience, training, or both

· Must be FMCSA certified or able to complete certification based on work experience and/or training

Mechanical FMCSA Brake Criteria;

· Understand the container chassis brake service or inspection task and can perform that task

· Be knowledgeable of methods, procedures, tools and equipment used when performing a chassis brake service or inspection

· Be capable of performing an FMCSA chassis brake inspection by reason of experience, training, or both

· Must be FMCSA certified or able to complete certification based on work experience and/or training
