The Retail Shipping & Receiving Manager works with Store Management, Retail Buyers, and Shipping & Receiving Associates to ensure inventory integrity, operational efficiency, and seamless product availability. This role directly manages two associates and requires decision-making, delegation, adaptability, and hands-on leadership.


The International Spy Museum is a nonprofit, nonpartisan museum that educates the public about espionage and intelligence in an engaging way and provides context that fosters understanding of its important role in and impact on current and historic events.


Responsibilities


  • Collect, log, and process incoming shipments. Unpack and examine merchandise to verify counts and accuracy against purchase orders and invoices.
  • Identify, document, and resolve discrepancies or damages in partnership with the buyers and vendors.
  • Ticket and sticker merchandise and ensure timely movement of product to sales floor or appropriate stockrooms.
  • Maintain organized fixture and product stockrooms across multiple locations to support replenishment and inventory visibility.
  • Facilitate consistent, accurate flow of product to the sales floor.
  • Complete and manage routine inventory cycle counts.
  • Partner with the Store Director in preparing for annual physical inventory, including stockroom preparedness, accurate counts, and day-of supervision.
  • Supervise the processing of damaged merchandise, MOS, donations, and inventory adjustments. Communicate inventory levels or concerns to the buyers.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels of shipping materials, retail supplies and office supplies by anticipating operational needs.
  • Manage web order fulfillment and returns or exchanges.
  • Directly manage, train, and coach two Shipping & Receiving team members.
  • Oversee markdown processes, ensuring merchandise is priced correctly and adjusted appropriately. Monitor the inventory flow of the markdown items to the floor.
  • Manage cross-departmental museum mail and all packages entering or leaving the building.
  • Provide operational backup to the retail store as needed, including assisting customers and stocking the sales floor.
  • Transport stock from docks to stockrooms and operating equipment such as pallet jackets in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Attend and actively participate in weekly department meetings and monthly all-staff meetings.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.


Minimum Education and Experience

  • High School degree or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years of retail stockroom or receiving supervisory experience.
  • 2 years of experience in inventory management.
  • Proven computer proficiency, including Microsoft Excel.
  • Prior Retail point-of-sale experience. Shopify experience is a strong plus.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $50,000 - 55,000, commensurate with experience.


Special Considerations

This is a full-time salaried position.

Required to work some weekends and holidays as dictated by the needs of the business.

Typical schedule is M-F 8:00am – 5:00pm.

  • This role requires extended periods of standing and walking, frequent bending, and the ability to lift and move merchandise up to 60 pounds. Transporting merchandise from other locations within the Museum using carts and dollies is required. Ability to operate and move a full pallet jack is required.

Salary : $50,000 - $55,000
