Language Interpreter

Job description:

We are seeking a dynamic and highly skilled Language Interpreter to facilitate clear and accurate communication across diverse languages and cultural contexts. This is a contractor's position on an as-needed-basis where individuals will render messages from one language into another with accuracy and impartiality, without omitting or adding. In this vital role, you will serve as a bridge between individuals or groups who speak different languages, ensuring that messages are conveyed with precision, professionalism, and cultural sensitivity.

Your expertise will help foster understanding and collaboration across a variety of settings, including healthcare, legal, educational, and community services, with both in-person and remote (phone or video) opportunities available. Individuals interested must be dependable, professional, and culturally sensitive, with strong listening, memory retention, and communication skills, along with knowledge of different subject areas. Hours are flexible, and any prior training or experience will be recognized. Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

• High school diploma, GED or equivalent (required)
• Be 18 years old
• Competent in English and another language at above average level (speaking, reading, and writing)
• Willing to take screenings/proficiency or interpreting tests and pass with above average score
• Must live in Phoenix or Tucson, Arizona

Conditions of Employment:

• Must be authorized to work in the United States
• Be familiar with various virtual applications including Webex, Teams and Zoom
• Have access to a computer and/or cell phone with good Wi-Fi connection

Languages needed:

Amharic, Burmese, Karen, Kareni, Chinese, Chin Burmese dialects, Dari, Pashto, Kinyarwanda, Kirundi, Swahili, Tigrinya, Spanish, Somali, Rohingya and Ukrainian.
