LHM seeks an Associate Director of Church Engagement to advance LHM’s relationship with individual churches by building trust and deepening relationships with leaders, both professional and lay, in congregations across the LCMS, and when appropriate, beyond. The Associate Director, Church Engagement will establish strategy, manage budget, and set annual goals for the Church Engagement Team. The team will connect with church leaders as they gather in groups at Circuit/Cluster, District, and National levels, thus expanding the engagement of churches via the ready entry point of congregational leadership. The Associate Director of Church Engagement will deepen church engagement with LHM by building awareness of LHM’s ministry and resources. The Associate Director will also seek, as appropriate, to move church leaders to become advocates for LHM among church members and with fellow church leaders. Finally, the Associate Director will work collaboratively with other LHM teams to advance relationships with churches and their members for the sake of donor cultivation.
Major Responsibilities:
- Increase church engagement with LHM by helping congregations discover how LHM can support their ministry endeavors.
- Develop a thorough working knowledge of LHM’s programs and resources for the sake of promoting and sharing them in understandable ways with churches.
- Effectively advocate for LHM at Circuit/Cluster meetings of professional church workers, and as appropriate, with LCMS District leaders.
- Collaboratively work with other LHM teams to effectively create strategy to increase and sustain church engagement.
- Lead the church engagement team by managing budget, establishing annual goals, and
setting ongoing strategy. - Promote high impact outreach ministry that proclaims the Gospel to the unchurched.
- Work with the Community Facilitator for Congregations to recruit, train, and assist qualified congregational Ambassadors.
- Work with the Community Facilitator for Communities to engage, train, and support LLL Districts with their church engagement efforts.
- Maintain regular communication with the LCMS district offices, communication departments, and other entities available within the assigned region for the sake of church engagement.
- Collaborate with other LHM staff to provide a consistent message and identify resources and support for congregations related to their unique ministry initiatives.
- Foster relationships with local pastors and laity to develop and oversee teams that comfortably interact with the non-churched.
- Ensures programs stay within allocated budget, follow policies and procedures for procurement.
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
- Passionate and energetic about proclaiming the saving news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to mass audiences across North America and beyond
- Member of a Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod congregation and faithfully supports the Synod’s mission and theology.
- Bachelor’s degree; Some post graduate education preferred
- Strong organizational and cooperation skills
- Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
- Apt to teach/present to large groups in clear, understandable ways
- Friendly, outgoing, and highly motivated
- Entrepreneurial spirit with creative energy
- Willing to collaborate across teams to maximize collective success
- Capacity for innovative, visionary and creative leadership
- Flexible, teachable, mature in Christian formation
- Willing to travel up to 25 times a year for several days at a time
Preferred Qualifications:
- An ordained pastor in the LCMS with a minimum 5 years experience
- Donor of Lutheran Hour Ministries and faithfully supports its efforts
