Job Title: Transportation Dispatcher Exemption Status/Test: Non-Exempt

Primary Purpose:

This position will be responsible for all aspects of scheduling and coordinating field trips for the district

primarily in Trip Direct including PK-12th grade during the school year and summer. This will consist of

scheduling buses and drivers for all school field trips and extra-curricular actives. This position will have a

schedule of 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM to cover the radio and phones until the evening bus routes return to their

home campuses. In addition, they must also be able to fill in as a Bus Driver when required which will cover

additional responsibilities.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High School Diploma or GED

Clear and valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S)

endorsements

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Must be 18 years of age

Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical exam

Ability to complete required bus driver safety training

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

Ability to use maps and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) to follow routes and locate addresses

Ability to manage student behavior

Ability to communicate effectively with others

Ability to operate bus

Experience:

Major Responsibilities and Duties: Transportation Dispatcher

1. Being attentive to traffic and weather conditions and ensuring passenger safety.

2. Following the planned route and schedule for departure times and stops.

3. Regularly checking vehicle safety such as tires, brakes, turn signals, mechanical equipment, etc.

4. Monitoring and reporting fuel consumption, mileage, and passenger numbers.

5. Reporting delays, accidents, and emergencies.

6. Responding to emergency and non-emergency situations.

7. Inspecting the vehicle thoroughly before and after each trip.

8. Assisting with the loading and unloading of the bus when required.

9. Enforcing conduct and safety rules on the bus.


10. Maintaining a clean vehicle.

11. All other duties as assigned.

Any and all other duties assigned by immediate supervisor.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Tools/Equipment Used: Operate school bus; two-way radio; global positioning system (GPS); safety

equipment including but not limited to flares, reflective signs, and fire extinguisher

Posture: Prolonged sitting; frequent standing and twisting; occasional kneeling/squatting, bending, stooping,

and pushing/pulling

Motion: Prolonged driving; moderate walking; frequent climbing stairs, grasping/squeezing, wrist and

shoulder flexion/extension, and reaching

Lifting: Limited light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds) on a daily basis

Environment: Frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, noise, and vehicle fumes; work

around moving vehicles; regularly work irregular hours, and occasionally work prolonged hours Mental

Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress
