About the Role



The Special Education Transition Coordinator training, and teacher supports students with disabilities in preparing for postsecondary education, employment, and independent living. The coordinator ensures compliance with federal and state special education transition requirements and works collaboratively with campuses, families, community agencies, and leadership to implement effective transition planning and services.



Responsibilities



  • Transition Planning and Implementation
  • Coordinate transition planning for students with disabilities beginning no later than age 14 (or earlier when appropriate) in accordance with IDEA and Texas Education Agency (TEA) requirements.
  • Ensure all students have measurable postsecondary goals in education/training, employment, and when appropriate, independent living.
  • Collaborate with ARD committees to develop and implement transition services that support student goals.
  • Support Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) meetings for secondary students receiving special education services.
  • Support ARD committees in developing legally compliant transition plans aligned with TEA Indicator 13 requirements.
  • Ensure transition services, courses of study, and graduation pathways align with students’ postsecondary goals.
  • Provide guidance to students and families regarding transition options after high school, including postsecondary education, workforce opportunities, technical training programs, and independent living resources.
  • Facilitate student participation in their own ARD meetings and transition planning.
  • Coordinate services and partnerships with outside agencies including Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), Vocational Rehabilitation (VR), community colleges, universities, workforce training programs, and adult service agencies.
  • Invite appropriate agencies to ARD meetings with parental consent.
  • Assist campuses in administering and interpreting age-appropriate transition assessments to identify student strengths, preferences, and interests.
  • Use assessment results to inform postsecondary goals and transition services.
  • Monitor campus transition documentation to ensure compliance with IDEA transition requirements, TEA Indicator 13 requirements, and graduation planning requirements.
  • Review IEPs and transition plans to ensure accuracy, completeness, and legal compliance.
  • Track and monitor transition data for compliance and reporting purposes.
  • Assist with state reporting requirements related to transition services and student outcomes.
  • Support campuses in maintaining accurate records for cyclical monitoring and audits.
  • Provide professional development to special education staff, campus administrators, and counselors regarding transition planning and services.
  • Support campus teams in implementing best practices for transition programming.
  • Assist in developing and expanding transition programming including work-based learning opportunities, job shadowing, internships, community-based instruction, and independent living skills instruction.
  • Collaborate with Career and Technical Education (CTE) departments to align programming.
  • Work closely with Special Education leadership, campus administrators, school counselors, CTE departments, and postsecondary institutions to ensure coordinated support for students transitioning to adulthood.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of transition services, agency contacts, and student progress.
  • Ensure records support compliance with federal and state special education requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Special Education to support transition services and student outcomes.


Qualifications



  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Master’s degree from accredited university preferred
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate


Required Skills



  • Knowledge of Special Education Transition and State and Federal SPP Requirements
  • Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills


Preferred Skills



  • Three years of SPED teaching experience
  • Special Education Transition experience preferred


Pay range and compensation package



Exempt 219 Calendar: $69,826-$81,936
