What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chef Instructor position at International Culinary Arts & Sciences Institute?
Growing culinary institute looking to hire chef instructors with a passion for culinary and pastry arts. Duties include teaching classic and modern cooking techniques in pastry or culinary arts. There are also some administrative duties, such as grading homework assignments, exams, and recording attendance. Previous teaching experience is a plus but not required. Work includes evenings and Saturdays. Must be ServSafe certified or prepared to get certified.
Part time instructors can expect between 15-20 hours per week. This position has the opportunity for future growth into a full time or salaried position!
Job Specifications:
Education
High School Diploma or GED is required.
Post-secondary education is desired.
Culinary School education is preferred.
Experience
-General understanding of food products, food preparation techniques, sanitation principles, and use of kitchen equipment is required.
-Specific understanding of food products, preparation techniques, sanitation principles, and use of kitchen equipment utilized in the Instructional Units being taught is required.
-Professional foodservice experience is desired.
-Prior experience in culinary instruction is desired.
Communication Skills
-Ability to organize lesson material and explain concepts and techniques to students of varying ages, educational levels, and life experience backgrounds.
-Patience in handling student questions and complaints.
-Attitude of personal authority and the ability to effectively coordinate student activities and to retain a sense of classroom order.
-Ability to relate to several persons concurrently in a calm and appropriate manner.
-Cooperative interaction with LPSC/ICASI administrators, instructors, and staffers during planning and execution of class sessions.
-Willingness to evaluate and discuss differing points of view on food and its preparation in a fair manner.
-Able to convey enthusiasm for the particular topic being taught and foodservice education and employment in general.
