Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Appian Platform Administrator / IT Project Manager to support a federal Department of Education Appian environment. This position combines Appian platform administration, user and license management, and IT project management responsibilities.

The successful candidate will serve as a key point of contact between the customer, Appian, software/reseller partners, and the technical delivery team. The individual should have hands-on experience managing Appian users, roles, security, licenses, environments, and administration, along with strong IT project management experience.

Key Responsibilities

Appian Platform & User Management

  • Administer Appian users, groups, roles, permissions, and access.
  • Manage user onboarding, modifications, and offboarding.
  • Support Appian security and access-control requirements.
  • Monitor and manage Appian user accounts and platform access.
  • Support Appian Cloud and on-premises/Data Center environments.
  • Troubleshoot user access and platform administration issues.
  • Maintain Appian administration procedures and documentation.

Appian License Management

  • Manage Appian licenses, assignments, utilization, and availability.
  • Track license usage and identify unused or underutilized licenses.
  • Support Appian license renewals and procurement activities.
  • Coordinate with Appian and authorized resellers regarding licensing questions and renewals.
  • Maintain accurate license and user-management records.
  • Provide license utilization reports to government stakeholders and project leadership.

IT Project Management

  • Manage project schedules, milestones, deliverables, and dependencies.
  • Coordinate activities among government stakeholders, technical teams, Appian, and vendors.
  • Lead project status meetings and prepare status reports.
  • Track risks, issues, decisions, and action items.
  • Coordinate technical resources and prioritize project activities.
  • Support project planning, transition, implementation, and operational activities.
  • Communicate project status and key issues to government leadership.

Customer & Stakeholder Support

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for Appian administration and user-management activities.
  • Work directly with federal customer stakeholders.
  • Coordinate requirements and resolve operational issues.
  • Prepare presentations, reports, meeting notes, and project documentation.
  • Ensure timely communication and follow-up on customer requests.

Required Qualifications

  • 5 years of IT project management experience.
  • 3 years of Appian experience preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with Appian administration, user management, roles, groups, and security.
  • Experience with Appian license management and utilization.
  • Experience working with Appian Cloud and/or Data Center environments.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise application administration.
  • Experience managing project schedules, risks, issues, and deliverables.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with federal customers and technical teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Appian certification(s).
  • Experience supporting U.S. federal government customers.
  • Experience with Public Trust environments.
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Experience with Microsoft Entra ID/Azure AD, SSO, and enterprise identity management.
  • Experience coordinating software licensing and renewals.
  • PMP or equivalent project management certification.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is someone who can wear both hats: an experienced IT Project Manager who is also comfortable getting hands-on with Appian user administration, security, and license management.

This is not strictly a project-management position and not strictly a system-administration position. The individual should be able to coordinate with senior stakeholders while also handling day-to-day Appian platform and user-management activities.
