The City of Miami Beach (pop. 82,890) is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking engineering leader to serve as its next Assistant Director / City Engineer – Public Works. This executive-level position reports to the Public Works Director and plays a key leadership role in one of the City’s most critical and high-performing departments.
Responsibilities include supervising the Engineering and Infrastructure Divisions, overseeing capital improvement projects, right-of-way and surveying functions, sealing plans, providing strategic direction for water, sewer, streets, stormwater, warehouse, and pumping operations, managing CIP and grant-funded projects, and acting as Director when the Public Works Director is absent. The role also manages the design, permitting, and delivery of complex capital projects, ensuring regulatory compliance and alignment with city goals for resilience, mobility, and quality of life.
With a diverse portfolio that includes infrastructure planning, construction oversight, right-of-way management, and transportation and environmental review, the Engineering Division is central to Miami Beach’s long-term success. The new Assistant Director / City Engineer will guide this division and infrastructure division while working closely with elected officials, regulatory agencies, the development community, and internal departments to advance transformational public infrastructure initiatives.

Experience with public infrastructure planning, capital project management, and regulatory permitting is essential.
