The Stage One Legal Assistant will support our legal team during the initial stages of immigration removal defense cases. This role involves client interaction, case research, document preparation, and administrative support.
Responsibilities
- Conduct client intake and gather detailed immigration history and personal background information
- Maintain regular communication with clients, providing case updates and responding to inquiries
- Organize and maintain digital and physical case files, ensuring accurate and timely documentation
- Assist in preparing and filing motions, including motions to change venue and other pre-hearing motions
- Assist in preparing and submitting applications for Employment Authorization Documents (EADs), ensuring timely and accurate filing
- Support preparation for master calendar hearings (MCH) by organizing case materials and ensuring timely court submissions
- Assist with drafting and formatting legal documents, applications, briefs, and pleadings under attorney supervision
- Conduct legal research on immigration regulations and relevant precedents and summarize findings for attorneys
- Track case deadlines, court dates, and filing timelines
- Collaborate with attorneys and team members to ensure efficient case progression
Qualifications
- Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Certificate, coursework, or degree in legal studies, immigration, or a related field preferred
Experience:
- Prior experience as a legal assistant or paralegal preferred
- Immigration law experience highly desirable
Required Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities
- High attention to detail and accuracy in document preparation
- Proficiency with Google Workspace and case management software
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly required
Preferred Skills
- Prior experience as a legal assistant or paralegal preferred
- Immigration law experience highly desirable
Pay range and compensation package
$18-21 DOE
