The Prescription Management Specialist serves as a supporting member of patient care delivery ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant processing of medication-related requests. This role supports physicians, patients, pharmacies, and internal departments by coordinating prescription workflows, managing refills and requests, and resolving medication access barriers.  

 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Review incoming medication requests received through portal requests, fax and enter into the electronic medical record for processing. 
  • Triage medication requests to clinical care teams as appropriate. 
  • Complete prescription requests that fall within InterMed’s Prescription Refill Protocol 
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently with clinical care teams  
  • Collaborate with local pharmacies to clarify questions and/or concerns related to prescriptions 
  • Call patients to obtain or verify healthcare information 
  • Participate in process improvement (i.e., Lean Six Sigma, Gemba) activities 
  • Achieve productivity goals and performance targets in alignment with departmental standards.   
  • Maintains strict confidentiality in alignment with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability) guidelines and InterMed policies. 
  • Perform other duties to support the mission, vision and values of InterMed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:  

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED 
  • Experience: 
    • Clinical and/or pharmacy experience strongly preferred  
    • Understanding of medical terminology strongly preferred 
    • Experience with electronic medical records preferred 
    • Proficient in Windows-based systems and Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. 
    • Detail oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills.  
    • Excellent professional judgment and decision-making ability. 
    • Ability to collaborate as well as work independently 
    • Able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks with accuracy 
    • Professional written and verbal communications skills 
    • Consistently demonstrates strong attention to detail and sound judgment 
    • This position requires onsite work to support team collaboration and departmental operations. 
    • Ability to type with a high level of accuracy
