An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Patent Associate with 3–6 years of experience to join a highly regarded Intellectual Property practice with a strong national platform. This role offers the chance to work alongside a multidisciplinary IP team advising innovative businesses on the development, protection, and commercialisation of cutting edge technologies. The position is well suited to a technically strong attorney who thrives in a collaborative, forward thinking environment.
Responsibilities:
- Draft, file, and prosecute U.S. patent applications across a range of technologies
- Advise clients on patentability, infringement, and freedom to operate matters
- Work closely with inventors, engineers, and business stakeholders to develop IP strategies
- Interface with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on patent prosecution matters
- Assist with portfolio development, IP counselling, and related advisory work
- Support IP transactions, licensing, and settlement negotiations where required
Qualifications:
- J.D. required
- 3–6 years of patent prosecution experience
- Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, or Computer Science
- Admission to the USPTO or eligibility to sit for the Patent Bar
- Prior technical or industry experience in areas such as consumer electronics, software, web-based services, full-stack development, generative AI, machine learning, data structures, data storage, or databases is preferred
- Strong academic background with excellent writing, analytical, and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
