Seasonal Maintenance Worker

Performs simple and routine work involved in the maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings and related utilities, requiring the use of a variety of trade practices associated with occupations such as carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, cement work, painting, and other related trades.

SCREEN OUT - Minimum Qualifications:
Perform simple and routine work involved in the maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, and related utilities, requiring the use of a variety of trade practices associated with occupations such as carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, cement work, painting, and other related trades. Used simple measures and hand tools to replace broken planks on picnic tables; broken windows using precut stock; minor adjustments or replaces hinges, latches, and catches. Used a brush and roller on projects where appearances are not critical such as staining picnic tables and trash barrels. Performed routine maintenance on campground sites and trails using hand tools to re-grade and reset barriers to restore areas to original appearances. Operated a light truck to pick up supplies and to transport materials to and from work sites. I have cleaned and serviced chemical toilets, restrooms, and other campground or visitor facilities. Work has been under close supervision and referred unusual problems to the supervisor or a higher graded employee.

Responsibilities:

• Performs minor carpentry repairs using simple measures and hand tools on such tasks as replacing broken planks on picnic tables; broken windows using precut stock; minor adjustments or replaces hinges, latches and catches.
• Performs painting using brush roller according to specific instructions on projects where appearances are not critical such as staining trash barrels.
• Performs minor plumbing repairs such as tightening or replacing in-kind fittings and fixtures which do not require custom fitting or solder joints; replaces faucet washers; unplugs drains using a plunger; replaces liquid petroleum gas bottles.
• Receives, unloads and processes incoming shipments according to established procedures. Operates a forklift to load and unload supplies and light equipment not requiring special rigging. Operates pickup truck and park's UTV to pick up supplies, transport materials to and from work sites while assisting with project work and snow plowing.
• Cleans and services chemical toilets, restrooms park's buildings. Collect trash.
• Apostle Islands National Lakeshore Only-Lead Testing: The duties of this position require occasional exposure to lead based material due to the lead paint removal and encapsulating that is completed. As a result of this exposure employees will be required to be subject
  to lead (blood) testing.
• Apostle Islands National Lakeshore Only - Respiratory Fit Testing: The duties of this position require occasional exposure to particles and fumes in painting, carpentry, grinding or other work-related activities. For safety reasons when hazards cannot be eliminated air purifying respirators are required. Employees using respirators are required to participate in a respiratory protection program which includes medical evaluations. fit tests. and following procedures for proper respirator use.
