Job Title: Maintenance Tech Assistant
Reports To: Facilities Manager / Shelter Manager
Schedule: full time - 40 hours per week
Pay Rate: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour DOE
Position Overview
The Maintenance Tech Assistant supports the day-to-day upkeep, safety, and functionality of the shelter facility. This role ensures that the environment remains clean, safe, and in good working order for guests, staff, and volunteers. The position combines hands-on maintenance tasks with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing facility needs, including routine systems maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with routine maintenance and repairs (plumbing, electrical, basic carpentry, etc.)
- Conduct regular walkthroughs to identify maintenance or safety concerns
- Perform preventative maintenance tasks, such as changing air filters, replacing light bulbs, and checking smoke detectors
- Support work order completion in a timely and efficient manner
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of maintenance areas, storage, and tools
- Assist with room setups, furniture moves, and space transitions as needed
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and report hazards promptly
- Assist with exterior upkeep, including trash removal, snow removal, and general grounds maintenance
- Maintain inventory of maintenance supplies and notify supervisor of needs
- Coordinate with staff to minimize disruption to shelter operations during repairs
