Swahili & French Interpreter & General Support
Reports to: Mental Health & Interpreter Services Supervisor
Hours: Part-Time 15 hours per week
Salary: $19.00- $21.00 per hour based on experience
Job Description:
Responsibilities include working closely with Senior Advocacy and other teams as needed to establish and nurture the daily support for senior’s wellbeing. Aid in daily educational classes, assist with delivery of daily programing and services available for the seniors in the community that attend the center. Provide ongoing outreach efforts to bring awareness and education regarding ISC services offered to serve the aging population. Assist seniors to adjust to a new life in the United States that is culturally and linguistically appropriate.
Skills & Abilities:
· Must be culturally competent and be able to speak Swahili & French fluently. Fluent English is also required. Additional languages are a bonus.
· Self-motivated, ability to multi-task, and work well independently as well as in a team setting.
· Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Represent the agency and programs in a professional manner to clients, community organizations, and the public in general.
- Must uphold the mission of the organization.
· Consistent attendance at scheduled assignments.
· Team building and excellent interpersonal skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpreters will assist in educating the seniors about the current programs available at ISC.
- Aid the ISC teams with various translation and interpretation needs as they arise.
- Deliver socialization activities to seniors during scheduled outings/fieldtrips.
- Actively encourage and assist participants in the programs available.
- Always maintain client confidentiality.
- All other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Speak Swahili, French and English.
· High School diploma required. College level education is preferred.
· Professional appearance and demeanor.
· Valid Nebraska Drivers License and reliable transportation.
· Must pass a criminal background check through Nebraska State Patrol.
· Computer skills including Microsoft word, excel, power point, publisher. Comfortable with social media, working with copy machines and answering phones.
· Ability to sit for at least two hours, stoop, squat, and carry up to 30 pounds.
- Cultural sensitivity, strong customer service skills, and knowledge of Omaha and surrounding areas.
