JOB TITLE: IPS Employment Specialist

REPORT TO: CCBHC Site Directors and IPS Employment Coordinator

DEPARTMENT: CCBHC

LOCATION: ONSITE

We believe that in-person operations are the best way to serve our clients, both directly and through essential operational support. This position requires in-person attendance with a team at 1 Brooklyn clinic location with significant travel in support of the CCBHC Project.

Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) Core Services includes:

  • Crisis mental health services including 24-hour mobile crisis teams, emergency crisis intervention, and crisis stabilization; Screening, assessment, and diagnosis including risk assessment; Patient-Centered treatment planning or similar processes, including risk assessment and crisis planning; Outpatient mental health and substance use services; Outpatient clinic primary care screening and monitoring of key health indicators and health risk; Targeted case management; Psychiatric rehabilitation services; Peer support, counselor services, and family support services; and, Intensive community-based mental health care for members of the armed forces & veterans.*

With multiple locations across New York, we are dedicated to providing culturally competent, evidence-based mental health services to individuals and families in our community.Summary: The IPS Employment Specialist, a full time position, helps individuals with mental health and/or substance use disorders find and keep competitive jobs that align with their personal goals. This role is highly integrated into the clinical team and works closely with clients, employers, and other community partners to provide comprehensive vocational support. The IPS Employment Specialist is responsible for providing direct, individualized employment services to clients of the CCBHC. The specialist assists clients in all phases of the employment process, from career exploration and job searching to on-the-job support and long-term career planning. A core principle of this role is to empower clients by building on their strengths and fostering self-sufficiency. In this role, you will spend 65% of your work hours in community-based work capacity, meeting with individuals/job seekers, and potential employers. Your contributions will directly support our mission of enhancing community well-being. This individual must demonstrate a high level of independence, work within an integrated team approach, be accountable with cultivating job opportunities for their clients, and provide ongoing support to the individual with the transition to employment.

Responsibilities:

  • Carry a (20) person caseload of job seekers. Build trusting, collaborative relationships with clients to understand their career goals, interests, and skills. Provide one-on-one support and coaching throughout the job search and employment process.
  • Assess vocational skills and preferences in community settings, including visiting businesses and arranging informational interviews. Complete a Career Profile which includes individual employment plans with clients, incorporating input from the treatment team and, with the client's permission, may include input from family members.
  • Conduct individualized job searches aligning with IPS supported employment principles, including business visits for follow-up and manager discussions.
  • Engage job seekers in community settings to build trusting relationships focused on competitive employment.
  • Perform a minimum of (6) in-person employer contacts weekly to build relationships with hiring managers, understand business needs, and describe program supports. Activity is focused on identifying job opportunities that align with client interests. Provide potential employers information in place of job seekers.
  • Provide individualized job supports in workplaces or communities to aid employment retention.
  • Provide support to clients in creating resumes, cover letters, and practicing interview skills.
  • Offer follow-along support to clients once they are employed, including on-site coaching, help with job accommodations, and problem-solving to ensure long-term success.
  • Help job seekers understand how employment affects benefits and refer them to benefit counseling.
  • Educate and support employers as agreed upon by workers, including but not limited recommendations for job accommodations and supports (with permission).
  • Provide community outreach to re-engage workers who disengage from services.
  • Participate in weekly mental health treatment team meetings and communicate between meetings to coordinate vocational services.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all client interactions, vocational assessments, and progress in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Meet with state Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) counselors monthly and collaborate between meetings, complying with VR reporting procedures.
  • Help individuals explore jobs/careers by scheduling meetings with workers/managers, academic advisors, observing work, and attending job fairs.
  • Complete all assigned IPS training at onboarding and as required to maintain IPS skills.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team which includes therapists, care coordinators, other certified peer specialists, mobile crisis clinicians, psychiatric nurse practitioners and psychiatrists to assist with an integrated person-centered goal planning.
  • Communicates to the supervisor about the need for proper treatment and referral protocols with respect to child abuse, domestic violence, consultation with specialty clinics, and referral both within and outside of IDCC.
  • Follow policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure compliance with CCBHC program requirements and regulations for substance abuse services.
  • Complies with billing and reimbursement requirements, maximizing revenue potential while maintaining program integrity.
  • Comply with all relevant regulations, accreditation standards, and reporting requirements.
  • Participate in audits/reviews to ensure adherence to program requirements and standards.
  • Complete agency training to improve cultural competency and trauma informedcare as they align to CCBHC MCT and Agency specific mission.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
  • Available to travel/work evening and weekend hours as required by the agency.
  • Work collaboratively with the CCBHC Interdisciplinary Team as well as external agencies and community stakeholders.
  • Attend required management and staff meetings. Complete CCBHC and organizational training.

Experience:

  • Have at least 1 year with facilitating vocational assistance assistance.
  • Must have experience with motivational interviewing.
  • Knowledgeable about the psychosocial aspects of illness and health.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast paced environment.
  • Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have strong writing, editing and resume building skills.
  • Proficient with word processing, electronic health records, and electronic communications.
  • Well organized with strong time management skills. Enthusiasm and self-motivation regarding identifying client needs and obtaining related resources.
  • Able to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including being able to maintain a professional temperament with both clients and colleagues.
  • Knowledgeable with regard to the availability of community facilities and resources for referral, transfer and discharge planning.
  • Strong crisis intervention skills with desescalation experience
  • Able to meet program standards in documenting in client records.
  • Ability to work with challenging clients.
  • Comfortable with community outreach and home visits.
  • Comfortable and competency working with racially, culturally, religiously and ethnically, linguistically, differently abled diverse communities, including but not limited to BIPOC and LGBTQ communities.
  • Bilingual skill in a language other English (i.e. Spanish, Russian or Cantonese) is desired.

Qualifications:

  • Must have a high school diploma.
  • IPS certification, preferred.
