Project Overview
We are developing an original Roman-era gladiator epic designed as a hybrid interactive game narrative and vertical drama series. The story features high-stakes political intrigue, action, romance, and survival within the gladiatorial world, with a strong ensemble of 3 male leads and 7 female leads.
The project requires a writer who can manage large-scale narrative construction, character-driven storytelling, and branching interactive structure, while collaborating closely with production, game design, and editorial teams.
Position Summary
The Interactive Game & Vertical Series Writer will be responsible for developing and delivering two interconnected scripts:
- A long-form interactive game script (minimum 350 pages) with branching narrative paths, player-driven choices, and replayable story outcomes.
- A vertical episodic drama script (approximately 110 pages) adapted from and aligned with the core narrative of the interactive game.
This role requires a writer who understands both traditional screenwriting and interactive storytelling mechanics, with a strong command of historical drama and ensemble character arcs.
Key ResponsibilitiesNarrative & Script Development
- Write and deliver a minimum 350-page interactive game script, including:
- Branching dialogue paths
- Choice-driven outcomes
- Character-specific arcs and variations
- Multiple narrative threads and endings
- Write and deliver a ~110-page vertical series script, structured for short-form episodic consumption while maintaining cinematic quality.
- Ensure narrative consistency and continuity between the interactive game and vertical series formats.
World-Building & Character Development
- Develop a rich Roman/gladiator world, including political hierarchy, social dynamics, and historical tone.
- Create and sustain compelling arcs for:
- 3 male leads
- 7 female leads
- Balance action, drama, romance, and intrigue across both formats.
- Maintain strong character motivation and emotional progression across branching storylines.
Collaboration & Production Integration
- Collaborate with: Production Manger to develop the story.
- Game designers and narrative designers
- Editorial and development teams
- Participate in story meetings, revisions, and notes sessions.
- Adapt scripts based on production needs, budget considerations, and platform requirements.
Revisions & Deliverables
- Deliver outlines, beat sheets, drafts, and revisions on agreed timelines.
- Implement notes while preserving narrative integrity and character consistency.
- Support ongoing narrative adjustments during production and post-production as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience in screenwriting, narrative design, or interactive storytelling.
- Ability to manage and deliver large-volume scripts (300 pages).
- Strong understanding of branching narrative structures and player choice mechanics.
- Experience writing ensemble-driven stories with multiple lead characters.
- Solid grasp of dramatic structure, pacing, and dialogue.
- Comfortable working within development schedules and production constraints.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience writing for interactive games, visual novels, or branching narrative platforms.
- Familiarity with vertical drama formats and short-form episodic storytelling.
- Knowledge of or experience writing historical, epic, or gladiator-era narratives.
- Ability to adapt story content across multiple platforms while maintaining a unified narrative vision.
Reporting Structure
- Reports directly to the Production Manager.
- Works closely with creative leadership and development executives.
Contract Type
- Contract-based (with potential for ongoing collaboration across seasons, expansions, or future titles).
Pay: $ $28.33 per hour
