Summary: Assist the Life Enrichment Director in providing activity program for all residents. Must be able to problem solve, work independently, multitask and implement new ideas.
Qualifications:
- High School graduate or equivalent, with knowledge of the application of Activity skills, such as (but not limited to the following): crafts, music, exercise, group leadership.
- Good interpersonal skills, including group dynamics, 1:1 visit(s), sensory groups and have good teamwork.
- Self-starter, ability to start projects and provide clean up after project is complete.
- Good verbal and written communication skills: must be able to relate professionally with families, staff and residents. Must be able to complete charting timely.
- Cheerful, positive attitude, patience, and ability to motivate residents (people).
- Genuine liking and respect for the elderly, and physically, and mentally challenged.
- Ability to work independently, organize work day, and gather necessary work supplies.
- Physical ability to assist residents of all abilities and size to and from groups locations. Assist with resident outings as scheduled.
- Physical ability to assist with moving of supplies to and from storage locations.
Responsibilities:
- Assist Activity Director in the planning, development and implementation of activities/programs which enrich the lives of the residents.
- Proactively encourage and support resident’s rights.
- Develop and lead small, medium and large group activities.
- Work with residents of all abilities (cognitive and physical abilities).
- Contribute to resident’s care planning: assessments, care plan goals and approaches, and progress notes.
- Assist in documentation: assessments, interest questionnaires, care plans, progress notes, daily attendance charting, precaution list, one to one record, etc.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the Activity department and other departments of the facility. Cooperate with other departments in meeting the needs of the residents.
- Conduct 1:1 visits with residents, focusing on each resident’s specific interests.
- Work with volunteers – assist in work direction of volunteers as needed.
- Prepare group locations (room), equipment, and supplies prior to each program and clean up and put supplies away after each group/program.
- Transport residents to and from programs as needed.
- Assist with development of the monthly calendar including providing creative input, ideas, and suggestions for programs.
- Assist with outings as needed.
- Maintain safe Activity environment by using appropriate risk management, preventive maintenance, cleaning and storage of equipment.
- Attend staff in-services, department meetings, and education seminars as requested.
- Follow chain of command concerning department and facility business.
- Encourage resident and family participation in activity programs.

Responsibilities continued:
- Assist the Director in evaluating effectiveness of programs, individual needs, and participation levels of each resident and charting.
Other Job Functions:
- Assist with media correspondence, mailings, newsletters, bulletin boards and displays.
- Assist with decorating of the facility.
- Help assist in the dining room during meal times as needed.
- Complete other duties as assigned, appropriate to the Activity program.
Working Condition / Requirements:
In terms of an eight (8) hour work day, the amount of time spent in each of the following activities is defined as:
Occasional: 1-25% / up to 2 hours, Frequent: 25-75% - up to 6 hours, Continuous: 75-100% / more than 6 hours.
- Mobility / Movement: job requires frequent standing, sitting, and walking. Frequent pushing / pulling of carts or other objects; this includes pushing heavy residents to and from group location &/or community room to their room. Repetitive finger motion; occasional bending and stooping, squatting, kneeling, reaching out/over shoulder level, crawling, climbing and crouching, simple grasping and firm grasping.
- Lifting: job required occasional carrying; up to 20 pounds, lifts from the floor to waist up to 40 pounds, and lifts from knee to waist high up to 40 pounds. Using the buddy system to lift heavy objects (like Christmas tree bins and others holiday decorations) (due to repetitive nature).
- Speech, Hearing and Vision: job requires continuous talking, hearing ordinary conversations / noises and seeing with near / far vision. Frequently responding to auditory alarms / signals, and seeing distinguished colors, and seeing with depth perception.
- Environmental exposure: job requires occasional exposure to hot, humid environment, a cold environment; handling extremely hot or cold objects.
- Mental effort: job requires frequent concentration to a large volume of work which must be completed within a specific period of time. Involves daily or monthly deadlines with frequent periods of unusually heavy workload. Requires frequent phone or personal contact with residents, families, staff and community agencies who may become verbally abusive, where the worker must retain personal and professional composure.
