API Test Engineer

Contract role - potential to convert | Hybrid setting (4 days a week onsite)

We are seeking an experienced API Test Engineer to support mission-critical, bi-directional system integrations through comprehensive service-level testing. In this role, you'll be responsible for designing, executing, and automating API tests to ensure reliability, security, and production readiness across complex REST-based environments.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and execute test cases for REST APIs and system integrations.
• Perform functional, integration, regression, and negative testing to validate API behavior.
• Create and maintain automated API test suites.
• Validate request/response payloads, headers, and status codes.
• Identify, document, and track defects through resolution.
• Ensure APIs meet performance, reliability, and security requirements.
• Collaborate with developers, business analysts, and project teams to understand requirements and translate them into effective test scenarios.
• Support production readiness activities and contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications

• 5 years of software/system testing experience, including writing and executing test cases.
• Hands-on experience testing REST APIs and application integrations.
• Strong understanding of HTTP methods (GET, POST, PUT, DELETE) and status codes (200, 201, 400, 401, 403, 404, 429, 500).
• Experience with JSON request and response bodies.
