TITLE: Assistant Production Manager III

POSITION OBJECTIVE: To provide leadership and administrative assistance by ensuring efficient operations and managing production schedules. Monitoring quality standards and implementing quality rules to maintain production integrity. Coordinating team performance and ensuring effective communication among staff. Identifying operational issues and ensuring production meets deadlines. Monitor and implement the methods and responsibilities for the highest safe food and quality products complying with prescribed standards related to SQF (Safety Quality Food) code Ed. 9, ISO (International Organization for Standardization) and FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred with emphasis in Business/Managing/Engineering or equivalent experience in related fields.
  • Fifteen years of experience in PET extrusion supervision or related field.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Good analytical & planning skills.
  • Good oral & written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, and production reporting software.
  • Ensure consistent, dependable attendance and demonstrate a willingness to accommodate non-standard work hours as necessary.
  • Capable of effectively managing job-related stress and fostering productive workplace interactions.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support and enforce all plant safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of all personnel assigned to the production department.
  • Assist in supervising daily production operations and provide direct leadership, guidance, and performance management for production personnel.
  • Coordinate production activities to ensure efficient manufacturing of PET products while meeting production schedules and operational targets.
  • Support the achievement of plant quality, productivity, and efficiency objectives by ensuring compliance with established operating procedures and quality standards.
  • Monitor departmental performance and implement corrective actions to maintain or exceed production, quality, safety, and cost goals.
  • Collaborate with maintenance, quality, engineering, and other departments to resolve production issues and improve overall plant performance.
  • Participate in the training, coaching, mentoring, and professional development of production team members to enhance skills and promote continuous improvement.
  • Assist in identifying opportunities for process optimization, waste reduction, and increased operational efficiency through continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure accurate production records, reports, and documentation are completed in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Respond promptly to production issues, equipment failures, and emergency situations, including maintaining frequent on-call availability to support continuous operations.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned to support plant operations and business objectives.

  • Responsible for all shift personnel. Assumes responsibility of Departments in absence of Plant Manager.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION:

  • Climbing, ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.  Body agility is emphasized.
  • Balancing, maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces.
  • Stooping, bending body downward and forward by bending spine and waist. Example: Changing paper in printer, copier machine.
  • Kneeling, bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
  • Crouching, bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
  • Crawling, moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.
  • Reaching, extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. Example: Giving signals, reaching for material or handle on item.
  • Standing, particularly for sustained periods of time. Example:  Making copies, giving presentations, directing traffic.
  • Walking, moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances.
  • Pushing, using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.
  • Pulling, using upper extremities to exert force in order to drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
  • Lifting, raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position. Degree of lifting:5-50 lbs.                 
  • Fingering, picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm as in handling.
  • Grasping, applying pressure to an object with fingers and palm.
  • Feeling, perceiving attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
  • Talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, via face to face or telephone.
  • Hearing, perceiving the nature of sounds with no less than a 40 db loss @ 500 Hz, 1,000 Hz and 2,000 Hz with or without correction.  Ability to receive verbal communication and to make fine discriminations in sound, such as when making fine adjustments on machined parts.
  • Repetitive motions, substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands and/or fingers. Example: Filing, sorting mail, starting ignition of machinery.

VISUAL ACTIVITY REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION:

  • Position requires individual to differentiate colors, depth and perception.
  • Must be able to detect visual defects in  PET film and containers.
  • Must be able to perform visual inspections involving small defects.

Must be able to read measurement devices such as tape measurements, pendulum scale, digital displays, etc.
