What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical Engineer position at IntelliServ?
Job Title
Mechanical Engineer III
Summary
The Mechanical Engineer III is a mid-to-senior level engineering role responsible for leading the design, development, verification/validation, and support of mechanical systems and components. This role owns complex workstreams, mentors junior engineers, partners cross-functionally (manufacturing, supply chain, quality, and project management), and drives technical decisions that improve performance, reliability, cost, and schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical design and development of products/systems from concept through release and production support.
- Translate customer and internal requirements into engineering specifications, architectures, and detailed designs.
- Create and review 3D models, drawings, GD&T, and engineering documentation; ensure compliance with applicable standards.
- Perform engineering analyses (hand calcs and/or FEA/CFD as needed) to validate design performance and safety margins.
- Develop and execute test plans, verification/validation strategies, and root-cause investigations; document results and recommendations.
- Drive design reviews (PDR/CDR), risk assessments (DFMEA), and design-for-manufacturability/assembly/serviceability improvements.
- Partner with manufacturing to support prototyping, tooling, process development, and transition to production.
- Own technical problem-solving for field or production issues, including corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) where applicable.
- Manage technical scope, schedule, and deliverables for assigned projects; communicate status and risks clearly.
- Mentor and guide Mechanical Engineer I/II team members; contribute to engineering best practices and process improvements.
- Coordinate with suppliers on component selection, technical requirements, and qualification testing.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or closely related field).
- Typically 6–10 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Proficiency with 3D CAD (e.g., Creo, SolidWorks, Inventor, NX, or similar) and drawing creation/release practices.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, manufacturing processes, and GD&T.
- Experience taking designs through prototype, test, and release into production.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical work, conduct design reviews, and solve complex engineering problems.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience with FEA/CFD tools and advanced tolerance analysis.
- Familiarity with regulated or safety-critical environments (as applicable), quality systems, and documentation rigor.
- Experience with hydraulics/pneumatics, rotating equipment, shake & vibration, pressure-containing components, or other domain-specific systems (if relevant).
- Experience with product lifecycle management (PLM) tools (e.g., Windchill, Teamcenter, Agile).
- Project management best practices tools (e.g. Jira, Confluence)
