The Electrical Technician (Traffic Systems) II will support the company’s technical operations for building, installing, and servicing technological devices of Traffic Control Equipment and Intelligent Transportation Systems. The position will provide technical support to customers by troubleshooting problems and offering professional advice to resolve technology related issues and directing the activities of internal technical operations. This is a mid level position, requiring professional interaction with Contractors, Engineers, Consultants, and laborers to promote the successful business development of ITS Products, LLC.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assemble traffic signal cabinets according to customer specifications by installing wiring, panel boards, controllers, vehicle and pedestrian detectors, and vehicle preemption devices.
- Configure signal controllers by reading and interpreting timing directives.
- Test all new traffic devices for quality assurance, documenting results and making modifications as necessary to meet quality standards; test all wiring systems, electrical components and circuitry and completing required documentation.
- Provide technical support to existing customers; respond to technology related inquiries and emergency repair calls; provide verbal instructions over the phone to resolve routine problems; troubleshoot and reconfigure or repair devices at existing signalized intersections and client operations centers.
- Assist customers and contractors with the “turn on” of new intersection controllers and cabinet installations, to ensure all devices are working as required.
- Provide back-up support to Technician I or Assembly personnel during absence or as needed or urgent project deliverables.
- Configure, install, troubleshoot, and train end users on Cubic Trafficware/Gridsmart products platforms and applications.
- Assist with configuration and installation of Intelligent Transportation Systems projects.
Qualifications:
- Completion of vocational, technical, or specialized training in electrical technology, electronic technology, or closely related field.
- Completion of four years successful experience installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical or electronic components, equipment, or systems; OR two years targeted experience configuring traffic signal controllers for transportation systems.
- Proficiency with schematic symbol systems, voltage transformers operations, principles of electricity (volts/ohm meters, voltage generators, and signal tracers) and electrical testing/troubleshooting techniques for wiring systems and electrical components
- Knowledge of computer systems and applications related to traffic and Intelligent Transportation Systems devices. Proficiency with integration of various systems and system communications protocol including networking protocols and end devices.
- Experience working in field locations, in construction environment, and in varying weather conditions.
- Valid New Jersey driver’s license
Ability To:
- Analyze, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software related problems;
- integrate various electronic devices to function together in a computer networking environment.
- Read and interpret schematic drawings to determine job specifications and installation needs.
- Work professionally with customers, contractors, and engineers in the field and on client sites; establish and maintain good working relationships with customers, contractors, and co-workers.
- Ability to listen, communicate and work effectively with a diverse group of people through oral and written presentations, documents, specifications, emails and phone calls with customers and co-workers.
Nature and Scope of Position:
- Professional level position that requires independent thinking and decision-making
- Will work in a variety of locations and conditions, including in office, shop area, client operations centers and field jobsites in varying weather conditions.
- Involves frequent daytime travel.
- May be required to work hours in addition to the regular work schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays for on-call technical support.
- Ability to bend, stand, kneel, stoop, squat, push, pull, walk on all types of terrain, and lift 50 lbs.
- Requires professional interaction with variety of management personnel, contractors, and laborers.
