Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable High School Chemistry Teacher to deliver rigorous, college-preparatory science instruction. The ideal candidate combines strong content expertise with an ability to make chemistry relevant and accessible to students, while cultivating a sense of wonder about the natural world as a reflection of Allah's creation.

Key ResponsibilitiesInstruction & Curriculum

  • Deliver engaging, standards-aligned Chemistry instruction including atomic structure, the periodic table, chemical bonding, stoichiometry, acids and bases, thermodynamics, reaction kinetics, and electrochemistry
  • Design and facilitate hands-on laboratory investigations that develop scientific reasoning, data analysis, and experimental design skills while maintaining strict safety standards
  • Differentiate instruction to support all learners including honors, grade-level, and students requiring academic support
  • Prepare students for standardized examinations including NC Science EOCs, SAT/ACT Science sections, and AP Chemistry where applicable
  • Integrate Islamic perspectives on scientific inquiry — the pursuit of ilm (knowledge) and reflection on the signs (ayat) of Allah in the natural world — into relevant content areas
  • Maintain accurate student records, laboratory documentation, grade submissions, and timely progress reports

School Community & Additional Duties

  • Build mentoring relationships with high school students that support academic achievement and personal development
  • Communicate proactively with parents and guardians regarding student academic progress, laboratory safety, and course expectations
  • Collaborate with the science department and academic leadership for curriculum articulation, vertical alignment across middle and high school, and school improvement initiatives
  • Participate in professional development sessions, curriculum nights, parent engagement events, and school-wide activities
  • Perform additional school duties as assigned by administration, which may include supervision responsibilities such as hallway monitoring, carpool duty, lunch supervision, and other school-wide operational needs; all staff members are expected to contribute to the smooth and safe daily functioning of the school community

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Science Education, or a closely related field
  • Minimum of 2 years of high school chemistry or secondary science teaching experience
  • Strong content knowledge in chemistry at the college-preparatory level
  • Experience with laboratory instruction and commitment to maintaining a safe science environment
  • Effective classroom management skills and ability to build positive relationships with adolescent learners
  • Commitment to and respect for the Islamic school mission and values
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Valid North Carolina Teaching License or state teacher certification in Chemistry or Secondary Science
  • Advanced degree (M.S. or M.Ed.) in Chemistry, Science Education, or related field
  • Experience teaching AP Chemistry, honors chemistry, or dual-enrollment science courses
  • Familiarity with NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards) and North Carolina Essential Standards for Science
  • Experience in an Islamic or faith-based school setting
  • Proficiency with educational technology tools, learning management systems, and digital lab tools
  • Bilingual in Arabic and English
