What are the responsibilities and job description for the Litigation Attorney position at Intellectual Property Consulting?
Intellectual Property Litigation Attorney
New Orleans, LA
Role Overview
We’re looking for a litigation attorney to join our New Orleans office.
The focus is litigation. If you have intellectual property experience, that’s helpful, but it is not required. The work here will give you the opportunity to build that expertise over time.
A large portion of the firm’s work is in federal court, so admission to any U.S. bar is sufficient.
This sits within a small, hands-on team where you’ll be trusted to manage matters, contribute early, and grow your practice.
What You’ll Work On
You will take ownership of litigation matters and move them forward independently.
Expect to:
- Handle disputes through the full litigation cycle, primarily in federal court
- Take and defend depositions
- Draft and argue motions that shape case outcomes
- Manage written discovery, including drafting and responding
- Conduct legal research and produce clear, persuasive writing
You won’t be limited to just one type of work. Over time, there may be opportunities to engage with broader IP work, including areas like licensing or prosecution, depending on your interests and experience.
Technical Expectations
- Comfortable operating in a litigation environment and stepping into active cases
- Able to manage workstreams independently, including court-facing responsibilities
- Strong motion drafting and legal writing skills
- Experience with depositions and courtroom interaction
- Solid understanding of litigation process from strategy through execution
This is a role for someone who can contribute, not just support.
Ideal Background Signals
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Admitted to a U.S. bar
- At least 3 years of litigation experience (more is helpful but not required)
The following are not required, but are highly valued and will significantly strengthen a candidate’s profile:
- Experience in intellectual property (litigation, prosecution, or related areas)
- Patent bar (or interest in pursuing it)
- Exposure to general corporate work (entity formation, governance documents)
- Early training at a larger law firm (strong foundational experience)
- Portable business, or a demonstrated ability and interest in building a practice and client relationships
Compensation and Benefits
- Base salary range: $125,000 – $180,000, depending on experience
- Quarterly non‑discretionary bonuses tied to billable hours (automatic, not subjective)
- Billable requirement: 1,600 hours
Benefits include:
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
- 401(k) with employer matching
- Paid parking
- Relocation assistance
