Salary Range: $120,000 – $160,000 (based on experience)

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled, detail-oriented Specialty Pharmacist to join our team. This role is designed for a licensed pharmacist with expertise in managing complex, high-cost, or specialty medications. You will serve as a clinical resource for patients, prescribers, and payers—providing high-touch patient care, answering advanced clinical questions, and navigating Medicaid and commercial insurance processes to expand access to care.
A key component of this role is building and scaling our Medicaid program nationwide, including helping to establish Medicaid contracts across all 50 states and creating a comprehensive internal Medicaid operations manual. You will work alongside a dedicated, mission-driven team committed to serving underserved populations and delivering exceptional clinical and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Specialty Pharmacy Support
- Serve as a subject matter expert on compounded and specialty medications, including high-cost, complex, or rare therapies.
- Answer advanced clinical questions from patients and healthcare providers regarding compounded medications, dosing, and therapy options.
- Assist in formula design and optimization, ensuring safety, efficacy, and regulatory compliance.
- Troubleshoot complex patient and practitioner situations with a solutions-oriented approach.
- Maintain deep expertise in compounding practices, specialty therapies, and evolving clinical standards.
Specialty Drug Counseling & Patient Care
- Comprehensive Education: Provide detailed, one-on-one counseling on complex drug therapies, including administration techniques, proper storage, and handling.
- Adherence & Safety Monitoring: Monitor for side effects, drug interactions, and adherence to prescribed treatment plans.
- Clinical Management: Conduct regular patient follow-ups via phone to assess therapeutic efficacy and manage symptoms.
- Deliver high-touch, compassionate care that supports patient confidence and long-term treatment success.
Insurance, Appeals & Access to Care
- Manage Medicaid and commercial insurance prior authorizations and appeals for compounded and specialty medications.
- Navigate state-specific Medicaid requirements, ensuring accurate and timely submission of documentation.
- Coordinate benefits and communicate directly with insurance payers and providers to secure coverage and access.
- Assist patients in navigating benefits and coverage limitations.
- Serve as a key liaison between prescribers, insurance agencies, and patients throughout the care journey.
Medicaid Program Development & Documentation
- Build and expand the Medicaid program nationwide, supporting access to compounded and specialty medications across all 50 states.
- Assist with establishing and maintaining Medicaid contracts and payer relationships.
- Develop, document, and maintain a comprehensive internal Medicaid operations manual, including workflows, state-specific requirements, best practices, and compliance standards.
- Continuously evaluate Medicaid processes to improve efficiency, accuracy, and patient access.
Customer Service & Collaboration
- Deliver consistently superior customer service to patients, providers, and internal teams.
- Collaborate closely with pharmacy technicians, clinical staff, and leadership to ensure seamless care delivery.
- Support a team-oriented environment focused on accuracy, accountability, and patient-centered outcomes.
Qualifications
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited institution
- Active GA Pharmacist license in good standing
- Specialty pharmacy experience is required.
- Experience with specialty medications, biologics, injectables, or complex therapies
- Demonstrated experience with insurance processes, including prior authorizations and appeals
- Exceptional attention to detail with strong multitasking and organizational skills
- Excellent communication, documentation, and problem-solving abilities
- Passion for expanding access to care and serving underserved populations
