The Clinical Coding Specialist I analyzes relevant clinical and demographic information from the Health Information record, assigns appropriate ICD-10 codes following appropriate guidelines and ascertains that the above are compliant with CMS, state and other regulatory agencies.

- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, coding and application
- Knowledge and understanding of disease process and etiology
- Knowledge of various computer applications including Windows, Excel, Hospital Information Systems and encoders
- One of the following:
- Enrollment in medical coding course work, awaiting certification for RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CPC; OR
- 1 year prior coding experience
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English (Oral/Written)
