Position Summary:
The Summer Camp Paraprofessional provides direct support to young children with Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED) and, at times, co-occurring developmental delays in a structured, therapeutic camp environment. Under the guidance of licensed staff, the paraprofessional helps promote positive behaviors, ensure safety, and assist in the daily delivery of recreational, educational, and social-emotional activities tailored to each camper’s needs. The ideal candidate is patient, enthusiastic, team-oriented, and passionate about creating joyful and inclusive experiences for youth with diverse needs. Please note this is a temporary, part-time position for the summer.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide 1:1 or small group behavioral and emotional support to assigned campers throughout daily activities.
Implement individual behavior support strategies under supervision of clinical staff.
Assist campers with daily routines, transitions, and participation in recreational, therapeutic, and social skill-building activities.
Use positive reinforcement, redirection, and proactive behavior management techniques.
Monitor for safety, behavioral incidents, and emotional regulation needs; intervene appropriately and report to supervisory staff as needed.
Collaborate with camp counselors, therapists, and clinical supervisors to maintain a structured, supportive, and fun camp environment.
Assist with hygiene support for campers who need personal care assistance (as appropriate).
Document daily camper progress, incidents, and relevant observations in a timely and professional manner.
Participate in pre-camp training, ongoing staff meetings, and team check-ins throughout the summer program.
Model respect, inclusion, and encouragement across all camp settings.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED (required); some college or coursework in education, psychology, social work, or related field (preferred).
Experience working with children or adolescents with SED, ID/DD, autism, or behavioral health needs (preferred).
Ability to remain calm, flexible, and supportive in fast-paced or emotionally challenging situations.
Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team.
CPR/First Aid Certification (preferred or willing to obtain prior to camp start).
Must pass background check and any state or agency-required clearances.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
Work is performed outdoors and indoors at camp locations and may involve exposure to various weather conditions.
The role involves physical activity including walking, standing, bending, and lifting up to 30 pounds.
