The Afterschool Specialist collaborates closely with the Afterschool Coordinator and school staff to ensure strong student outcomes, consistent attendance, and positive family communication.
Responsibilities
- Plan and facilitate engaging afterschool lessons and activities in STEM, literacy, and movement, aligned with site goals and student needs.
- Provide homework help, small-group tutoring, and targeted skill practice using school-day curricula, accommodations, and supports.
- Create a safe, supportive, and trauma-informed classroom that refl ects ICS expectations for behavior and culture; implement consistent routines and restorative practices.
- Diff erentiate instruction for diverse learners; follow IEP/504 accommodations in collaboration with school teams.
- Take accurate daily attendance, support snack routines, transitions, and dismissal procedures (parent pick-up and public bus riders).
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming learning environment; ensure materials are prepared and stored properly.
- Monitor and document student progress (brief notes, exit tickets, and attendance trends) and share updates with the Coordinator/families as directed.
- Communicate professionally with families (when requested) regarding student participation, celebrations, and concerns.
- Chaperone trips and special events as needed and follow all safety protocols.
- Adhere to all ICS policies, including mandated reporting, safety procedures, and technology use guidelines.
- Arrive on time, remain on site through student dismissal, and assist with end-of-day close-out as directed by the Coordinator.
- Participate in training/professional development and brief staff huddles; collaborate with peers to improve programming.
Competencies & Qualifi cations
- Demonstrated ability to engage and manage groups of K–12 students with warmth, high expectations, and clear routines.
- Experience supporting students with diverse learning needs; comfort implementing accommodations and behavior supports.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills; reliable and punctual.
- Prior experience in youth development, tutoring, teaching, camp, or afterschool strongly preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree (education, youth development, or related fi eld) preferred; current college students with strong experience are welcome to apply.
- Fingerprint clearance (or ability to obtain) required prior to start.
- First Aid/CPR certifi cation preferred. Salary
