About the Role
We are a busy professional household in The Colony looking for a skilled, reliable, and detail-oriented Cook & Housekeeper to join our family. This is a dual role: roughly half your time will be spent preparing authentic, home-cooked meals, and the other half maintaining a clean, organized, and well-run home.
The ideal person takes genuine pride in their cooking, runs a tidy household like clockwork, and treats our home as if it were their own. If you love cooking real, from-scratch Mexican food and keeping a home running smoothly, we would love to meet you.
What You'll Cook
The family loves a variety of foods such as Southern Comfort and Italian. However, the heart of this job is authentic, from-scratch Mexican cooking — the real thing, not shortcuts.
Authentic means:
- Working with dried chiles from scratch (toasting, rehydrating, blending your own sauces and adobos)
- Homemade flour and corn tortillas made from real masa and dough — NOT the "just add water" packaged mixes
Signature dishes we love (recipes provided and easy to follow):
- Mexican Rice
- Frijoles & Refried Beans
- Birria
- Chorizo Chicken
- Carne Guisada
- Menudo
- Homemade Flour & Corn Tortillas
You'll also cook for a variety of needs:
- Vegan dishes — we host a weekly team meeting for 7 people, 2 of whom are vegan. You'll prepare dishes for the group so we can skip the takeout.
- Kid-friendly favorites — our teenager is a picky eater. Comfortable, simple staples like pizza, hot dogs, chicken tenders, fried fish, and fried shrimp.
What You'll Manage at Home
Beyond the kitchen, you'll help keep our household organized and running smoothly:
Housekeeping & Cleanliness
- Oversee overall household cleanliness and organization
- Laundry, tidying, and general upkeep
- Maintain a hygienic, welcoming environment through meticulous housekeeping
Shopping & Inventory
- Handle grocery shopping and procurement of kitchen and household essentials
- Manage inventory of supplies so we never run short on the essentials
Planning & Records
- Maintain organized records of household inventory, meal plans, dietary restrictions, and service schedules
- Keep the household workflow efficient and predictable
Weekly Office Team Lunch
Once a week, we host our office team of 7 people at the house for a working meeting. Instead of ordering out, you'll prepare a spread that works for everyone — including 2 vegan team members. This is a great chance to show off both your authentic Mexican cooking and your vegan dishes.
Who We're Looking For
Must-haves:
- Proven experience cooking authentic, from-scratch Mexican cuisine (dried chiles, homemade tortillas, traditional stews)
- Able to follow provided recipes reliably and consistently
- Comfortable cooking vegan dishes
- Strong housekeeping, organization, and time-management skills
- Honest, trustworthy, dependable, and respectful of family privacy
Important note on pets:
- You must NOT be allergic to animals — we have animals in the home, so this is a firm requirement.
Nice-to-haves:
- Experience in a private household setting
- Ability to plan and manage multiple tasks (cooking cleaning) in a single day
- A warm, professional attitude and pride in a job well done
