Position Overview:
IWG is seeking a full-time and/or part-time Early Childhood Behavior Specialist to provide bilingual English/Spanish behavioral and mental health consultation services to early childhood centers across CT. Specialists collaborate closely with teachers and families, using evidence-based practices to address behavioral and social-emotional concerns, enhance classroom environments, and promote positive developmental outcomes. Current position involves work in both the New Haven and New Britain areas, and placement into IWG's Early Childhood Team requires flexibility to travel to any district across CT as needed based on seasonal fluctuations in contract needs. We proudly provide our behavioral health consultation services in New Haven, Bridgeport, Meriden, Hartford, New London, New Britain and additional districts, and staff's weekly work assignments vary across these contracts on a case-by-case basis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct detailed behavioral observations of individual children in classroom or home-based settings.
- Develop and implement individualized behavioral action plans for children and classrooms.
- Provide in-person behavioral management, coaching of staff and families in real time to support behavioral success, and engage in de-escalation strategies as needed without use of restraint/force.
- Engage in reflective consultation with families and staff to effectively guide individuals toward best-practice techniques and disrupt cycles of conflict; ability to fluently lead parent meetings and staff consultations in Spanish is a requirement
- Independently manage scheduling and maintain organized caseload to meet goals efficiently.
- Perform classroom-wide assessments using the CLASS® scoring tool to evaluate and enhance social-emotional interactions; IWG provides CLASS® Certification training as required.
- Provide evidence-based recommendations and coaching to childcare staff and families.
- Create and deliver workshops, trainings, tip-sheets, and resources for families and childcare centers; ability to translate current resources into Spanish and assist coworkers with translation for meetings in their caseload for spanish-speaking families
- Regularly coordinate via phone, email, and in-person meetings to ensure effective communication with childcare centers, families, and team members.
- Maintain timely and accurate documentation, including case notes, program data entry, and reports (remote work flexibility for report-writing and administrative tasks). Must be highly organized and detail-oriented; strong report-writing and mastery of English language is required. Additional languages preferred.
- Participate in weekly team meetings and regular supervision with manager to discuss cases, receive support, and plan strategically.
- Uphold confidentiality standards, ethical practices, and mandated reporting responsibilities.
- Attend local community events related to Early Childhood and organizational initiatives
- Support with marketing and outreach to better engage community and increase family access to behavioral health services
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity aligned with IWG’s mission and vision.
Required Qualifications:
- Fluency in Spanish required; ability to lead meetings, hold parent phone consultations, write reports, and lead trainings in Spanish without assistance of a translator
- Bachelor’s Degree required (Early Childhood Education, Conflict Analysis, Psychology, Human Services, or related field); advanced degree strongly preferred.
- LCSW, LMFT, LPC encouraged to apply - dual role between clinical therapy and Early Childhood services available.
- Minimum of 2 years direct professional experience working with young children (birth to 5 years old).
- Strong organizational and time-management skills; able to effectively manage coordination of prompt site visits to numerous programs on rotating basis
- Excellent interpersonal skills; must have a strengths-based approach to delivering feedback and maintaining constructive, positive communication with clients
- Experience in training, coaching, or consultation preferred.
- Must be highly organized and detail-oriented; strong report-writing and mastery of English language is required. Additional languages preferred.
- Tech-savvy; comfortable learning and using program-specific software. Experience using Quickbooks, Google Drive, Zoom, and PowerPoint preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required for travel related to position.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Hourly pay range: $22-$26/hour, depending on qualifications and experience.

Additional Information:
- Immediate hiring—position expected to be filled within two weeks of the posting date.
- CLASS® training is provided by IWG for specialists working in settings that require it.
- Employment requires background check, DCF Mandated Reporter Training, HIPAA Training, and additional job-related training provided by IWG
- Specialists can expect approximately 80% of their time to be spent inside classrooms providing behavior support services, and 20% of their time writing reports, creating resources, and additional documentation from home; travel to IWG's main office in New Haven is seldomly required.
