Job Title: FOIL & Records Access ParalegalLocation: New York, NY (Manhattan)Schedule: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PMContract Length: As soon as possible – one (1) year from start date, with potential for extension based on performance and client needsPay: $25.00hr - $28.00hrBased on experience,Job Summary:Integrated Staffing is looking to fill a full-time FOIL & Records Access Paralegal position for our New York State higher-education client located in Manhattan.In this role, you will support a central legal/records office by managing requests made under the New York State Freedom of Information Law (FOIL), reviewing and organizing large volumes of documents, and assisting with records retention and disposition. You’ll work closely with the client’s FOIL/Records Access Officer and legal staff to ensure that public records requests are handled accurately, timely, and in compliance with applicable laws and policies.This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented paralegal who enjoys document review, research, and process-driven work in a mission-driven public sector environment.Primary Responsibilities:Assist with intake, logging, and tracking of FOIL and records access requests for the client’s central office.Review paper and electronic records to identify potentially responsive documents and help determine the existence and location of requested records.Assist with applying FOIL standards and exemptions and preparing redacted versions of records for release, under the direction of supervising staff.Help compile, organize, and prepare document productions for requesters, including electronic and PDF packages.Maintain accurate tracking, documentation, and filing for FOIL requests, responses, and related correspondence.Support records retention and disposition efforts, including maintaining organized files and helping implement retention schedules.Coordinate with internal departments to locate records and obtain necessary information for FOIL responses.Draft and edit basic correspondence, summaries, and memoranda related to FOIL and records matters.Perform related administrative tasks such as scheduling meetings, managing calendars, organizing electronic and paper files, and preparing reports.Maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally and in accordance with applicable laws and policies.Perform other related duties as assigned to support the client’s FOIL and records access functions.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.Paralegal certificate or at least two (2) to three (3) years of paralegal or legal assistant experience.Prior experience working with large volumes of documents, records, or data in a legal, compliance, or records-management setting.Strong research, writing, and analytical skills, including the ability to interpret policies, procedures, and written guidelines.Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook) and comfort working with shared electronic file systems and virtual meeting tools.Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and track multiple matters at once.Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.Solid interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.Preferred Qualifications:Experience with FOIL, public records laws, or similar transparency/information-access frameworks.Experience supporting an in-house legal department, law firm, government agency, or public sector organization.Exposure to records management practices, including retention schedules and document-management systems.Experience in higher education or another complex, multi-campus or multi-unit environment.Familiarity with New York State government processes or public sector operations.Additional language skills are a plus.APPLY NOW!Integrated Staffing values a diverse, inclusive workforce and we provide equal employment opportunity for all applicants and employees.
