Respiratory Therapist Responsibilities:
As a Respiratory Therapist in this role, you'll manage complex respiratory patients and equipment across various settings.
- Clinical Management: Provide clinical management of complex respiratory patients and equipment for invasive and non-invasive ventilation (NIV), vest therapy, cough assist, and other specialty respiratory equipment.
- Diverse Settings: Work primarily private home environments, with some hospitals, clinics, nursing facilities visits.
- Patient Education: Educate patients and caregivers on respiratory disease management, medication, and equipment.
- Assessment & Documentation: Apply assessment skills during setup and evaluation of patients, completing accurate clinical assessment plans and electronic patient documentation. Document procedures, patient tolerance, side effects, and other pertinent information thoroughly.
- Equipment Expertise: Display adequate knowledge of respiratory equipment and the ability to utilize it effectively.
- Follow-Up & Risk Assessment: Continually monitor patient conditions to determine their level of risk based on patient acuity.
- Collaboration: Provide in-services to hospital staff, referrals, physicians, and caregivers. Follow up with referral sources and physicians regarding patient status when necessary.
- Compliance: Maintain adequate knowledge of and adherence to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) procedures.
- On-Call Duties: Assume on-call responsibilities as part of the rotation.
- Professional Development: Participate in ongoing education and training for skills, competence, and products.
Respiratory Therapist Requirements:
- Licensure: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT).
- State License: Current Illinois State License (additional licenses are a plus).
- Driving: Possess a valid driver’s license and maintain vehicle insurance.
- Physical Ability: Ability to frequently lift up-to 50 lbs. while transporting equipment to patient homes.
- Background: Ability to pass background, MVR, and drug screening.
- Preferred: Candidates with COPD and disease management experience.
- Preferred: Candidates with a home health background.
