Job Description
Job title: Inspector
Location: Brooklyn Center MN
Duration: 9 months (possibility of extension)
Jobs Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform routine destructive analyses for production using Destructive Analysis laboratory processes.
- Prioritize, perform and report weld analyses for production verification, equipment qualification, laser operator certification, and development support to include as needed:
1.Log-in, in-progress analysis status, maintaining traceability of samples and analysis reporting
2.Metallographical sample preparation, sectioning, mounting, grinding, polishing, and etching
3.Perform weld penetration and thermal damage analysis
4.Decide to release or hold manufacturing product lots for shipping
5.Report results - Assist engineers in qualifications and problem solving weld quality issues including:
1.Document problems
2.Capture unusual weld penetrations using computer image analysing equipment/software.
3.Send images to appropriate personnel to be reviewed
- Schedule workload and allocate resources for analyses so that they are executed within a timely manner and provide detailed and quality results.
- Work under direction of Destructive Analysis technicians for non-routine analysis.
- Assist in developing/improving and documenting weld analysis methods and procedures.
- Perform general laboratory responsibilities including:
- Continuously improve skills in the Destructive Analysis laboratory processes by continued education and training, vendor contact, technical reading, and experimentation with new techniques.
KNOWLEDGE/EDUCATION
High School Diploma or 2 year trade school or college in chemistry or metallurgical technologies, or related science (preferred)
- JOB EXPERIENCE
• 2 years’ experience in metallurgical sample preparation and analysis – Preferred.
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES
• Good verbal communication skills
• Good technical writing skills
• Good computer skills (Windows software)
• Good project management skills
• Good problem solving ability
• Self-motivating
• Strong ability to pay close attention to details
