Pay Rate Details: $200,000 - 225,000 depending on experience

Responsibilities and Expectations:

The Sr. Director of Transformer Engineering will provide strategic and technical leadership for IPS transformer engineering design, repair, testing, and manufacturing support capabilities. This role is responsible for building engineering standards, strengthening technical depth, supporting business growth, and ensuring transformer solutions meet customer expectations for safety, reliability, quality, and performance.

● Lead the engineering strategy for IPS transformer products, services, repair capabilities, technical standards, and long-term capability development

● Provide senior technical leadership for transformer design review, diagnostics, testing, repair, refurbishment, manufacturing support, and field-related engineering issues

● Establish consistent engineering processes, documentation practices, design review expectations, test procedures, and technical governance across transformer operations

● Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing engineering team focused on safety, quality, technical excellence, accountability, and customer satisfaction

● Partner with operations, sales, quality, supply chain, field service, marketing, product management, and executive leadership to improve execution, delivery performance, profitability, and customer experience

● Support complex customer opportunities by reviewing technical requirements, advising on solution design, supporting proposals, and participating in customer-facing technical discussions

● Serve as a senior technical escalation point for transformer-related failures, quality concerns, performance issues, and non-standard repair or manufacturing situations

● Drive root cause analysis, corrective action, and continuous improvement efforts related to transformer performance, process reliability, testing accuracy, and repair quality

● Ensure engineering practices align with applicable customer specifications, regulatory requirements, industry standards, safety expectations, and IPS quality requirements

● Identify engineering capability gaps and recommend investments in people, equipment, tools, technology, training, and process improvements

● Strengthen knowledge sharing across IPS by developing engineering playbooks, technical guidance, training resources, and standard work for transformer-related activities

● Support integration of transformer capabilities into the broader IPS power management portfolio and help identify opportunities for growth, differentiation, and operational improvement

Qualifications and Competencies:

● Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or related technical field required

● Advanced degree or Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred

● 15 years of progressive engineering experience in transformers, power systems, electrical equipment, manufacturing, repair, testing, or field service

● 5 years of leadership experience managing engineers, technical teams, engineering programs, or cross-functional technical initiatives

● Knowledge of power transformers, distribution transformers, oil-filled transformers, dry-type transformers, transformer components, diagnostics, repair practices, testing methods, and applicable industry standards

● Experience supporting or leading transformer manufacturing, remanufacturing, repair, refurbishment, field service, new product enhancements, or failure analysis activities

● Demonstrated ability to lead technical problem-solving, root cause analysis, corrective action, process improvement, and quality-focused engineering initiatives

● Ability to translate customer needs, technical requirements, and operational constraints into practical engineering solutions

● Strong business acumen with the ability to balance technical excellence, safety, customer expectations, cost, schedule, and operational execution

● Experience developing engineering standards, documentation, technical procedures, training materials, or governance processes

● Excellent communication, leadership, coaching, and stakeholder management skills

● Demonstrated ability to lead through change, develop talent, scale technical capabilities, and support business growth
