Position Summary
The Procurement Specialist is a strategic role that is responsible for all purchasing operations for all departments. This role requires research, identification, and selection of qualified suppliers for goods and services while continuously improving performance, cost structure and quality. The Procurement Specialist is responsible for assurance of expedient, effective and efficient purchasing operations with an emphasis on enhancing operational procedures, strategies, and objectives. The Procurement Specialist will collaborate with the organization to ensure best practice, profitability and communication that enables employee and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
· Act as liaison with other departments, including interacting with managers of different areas of the organization, presenting findings to management as well as tracking, and measuring purchasing performance and provide feedback, recognition, and development opportunities.
· Maintains collaborative and constructive communication with executive management and department heads to ensure proper operations of the organization.
· Maintain and develop strong vendor relationships.
· Manage timely data collection to update operations metrics to achieve productivity targets, reduce cost per unit, eliminate errors, and deliver excellent customer service.
· Contributes to operations information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; prepare and complete action plans; implement production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolve problems; complete audits; identify trends and propose solutions to problems and enhancements for the organization.
· Manages relationships with key supply partners.
· Works closely with the VP of Operations to set and/or implement policies and procedures. and systems and to follow through with implementation.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field is a plus (or equivalent experience).
- Experience:
- 4–6 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing or metal fabrication environment preferred.
- Knowledge of various steel manufacturing processes is required to understand technical requirements.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Capable of working in a team environment and detail oriented.
- Ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Physical environment
· The individual in this position must be able to:
o Sit for extended periods of time
o Move throughout the day, including standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching and climbing stairs
o Lift material weighing up to 50 pounds
o Talk, see, hear with or without the aid of devices that will enable these senses to function adequately so the requirements of the position can be fully met
o Cope with the mental and emotional stresses of the position
