Overview
The Job Coach provides individualized employment support to individuals with disabilities working in competitive integrated employment. The Job Coach assists participants in learning job duties, meeting employer expectations, developing workplace skills, and increasing independence.
Responsibilities
- Provide individualized coaching and instruction at community employment sites.
- Assist participants in learning and completing assigned job duties.
- Observe job performance and identify areas requiring additional instruction or support.
- Break job duties into smaller, teachable steps when needed.
- Model tasks and provide verbal, visual, or hands-on instruction as appropriate.
- Support workplace communication, problem-solving, time management, organization, attendance, and professional behavior.
- Monitor quality, productivity, safety, and ability to meet employer expectations.
- Identify employment barriers and develop strategies to address them.
- Assist with identifying and implementing reasonable workplace accommodations when appropriate.
- Help develop natural supports through supervisors, coworkers, and other workplace resources.
- Gradually fade Job Coaching support as the participant becomes more independent.
- Communicate appropriately with employers and members of the participant's employment team.
- Maintain participant confidentiality and professional boundaries.
Minimal Qualifications
- At least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Successfully complete required background and exclusion checks.
- Ability to effectively support individuals with disabilities.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to work independently in community employment settings.
- Professional, dependable, patient, and flexible.
Transportation
When transportation is part of assigned duties, the employee must possess a valid driver's license, maintain required automobile insurance, and meet applicable agency and funding-source driving requirements.
