Staff Accountant

Location: Fairlawn, Ohio or any of our OH offices (travel to Fairlawn, OH about once a month) 

Employment Type: Full-Time, Hybrid

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to join our growing team. This role supports the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization while ensuring accurate financial records and timely reporting.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and analyze balance sheet account reconciliations to support the month-end close process.
• Perform daily bank reconciliations and research and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
• Provide accounting support for Accounts Receivable activities, including customer account maintenance.
• Assist agency billing processes while ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely processing.
• Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements, automation opportunities, and standardized procedures to improve accounting efficiency and accuracy.
• Prepare financial reports, analyses, and supporting schedules for management decision-making.
• Assist with month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries and other general ledger responsibilities.
• Support the integrity of the general ledger through accurate reconciliations and accounting records
• Collaborate closely with the accounting team by providing timely, accurate communication and daily updates to ensure efficient workflows and successful completion of department objectives.
• Provide accounting support for Accounts Payable activities.
• Assist with special projects and other accounting and finance responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, required
• 1–3 years of accounting experience, preferred
• Insurance industry experience is helpful, but not required
• Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and accounting processes, preferred
• Experience with account reconciliations and month-end close activities, preferred
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; familiarity with accounting software or ERP systems is a plus
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
• Demonstrated curiosity and a continuous improvement mindset, especially around automation and process efficiency
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and professionalism
