Who are we looking for?
We are searching for an experienced Veterinary Technician. This position is a weekday position although some overtime opportunities for on-call night coverage may be available. Competency in all areas of anesthesia induction, maintenance, and recovery are a must. All applicants must have at least 2 years of experience as a veterinary technician or be a recent graduate of an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program to be considered for this position. CVT ideal, but not required. Pay is commensurate with experience.
What does this job look like?
The duties assigned to this role include but are not limited to:
- Patient triage including history-taking, patient assessments and obtaining vitals (temperature, pulse, heart rate, respiratory rate and effort, blood pressure via Doppler, etc.)
- Administer fluids and medications via varied routes per staff instruction
- Perform a variety of standard (and possibly advanced) patient treatments dependent upon the shift being filled
- Perform or assist with advanced-level diagnostics including MRI and CT imaging, radiology, ultrasonic procedures, ECG, lab tests, and more
- Contribute to a neat, clean, and orderly work environment and a positive, support team atmosphere
- Provide patients with attentiveness, compassion, and delivery of superior nursing care
- Deliver outstanding client service in the form of patient discharge instructions, phone triage, pharmacy communication and client education
- Perform other duties as assigned
What does this job require?
A qualified candidate will need to be organized and accurate, have professional phone skills, and be good at multitasking. Candidates will be able to work independently as well as part of a team and will demonstrate a shared sense of responsibility among the different services within the hospital. A candidate will also possess the following qualifications:
- At least 2 years of experience as a veterinary technician or be a recent graduate of an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program
- Strong technical skills including venipuncture, catheter placement, general laboratory, anesthesia and pharmacology skills
- Knowledge of normal patient (cat/dog) parameters
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology
- Working knowledge of the indications, adverse effects and dosing considerations for commonly-used veterinary medications
- Strong work ethic and good organizational and multi-tasking skills
- Able to lift 50 pounds
