About the Position: This position is within the Office of Mitigation located in Byram, Mississippi. The position provides regulatory and programmatic oversight for the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) through the Tiered State Framework. The candidate will provide technical assistance, conduct community audits, and floodplain management training to the 335 Mississippi communities that participate in the NFIP. The incumbent will be responsible for interpreting regulations, policies, and procedures, and enforcing regulations and ordinances in a firm, tactful, and impartial manner. Ensuring local communities remain compliant with the program's rules and regulations to remain in the program. Working with local, state, and federal officials and providing training to local governments. This position requires some fieldwork and travel. This position is subject to other emergency management duties, which may require irregular work hours, working at locations other than the normal work duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the position description.*** Please note that a drug screening and background check may be required for all hires and promotions. Additionally, individuals involved in financial, human resources, or information technology responsibilities will be subject to credit checks. What you'll need to be Successful: Strong analytical skills, informed decision-making skills, efficient problem-solving skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, self-motivated, able to work independently, ability to work under pressure, excellent computer skills, and proficient in Excel.

Preferred Qualifications: Typically requires a Bachelor's degree OR graduation from high school or equivalent and 0-2 years of experience.

Flexible Spending Accounts

Paid Personal Leave and Sick LeaveFull-time employees receive paid time off for personal needs and for sick leave. Leave begins accruing after one month of employment and may be used as it is accrued. Employees earn approximately 18 days of personal leave annually and 12 days of sick leave annually.

Military Leave

In accordance with federal law, all employees serving in the armed forces or the military reserves are entitled to 15 days per year for military training.
