Position Summary

The Institute of Culinary Education, New York City Campus, is seeking a part-time Pastry and Baking Recreational Chef Instructor. The chef will be responsible for leading the hands-on recreational cooking classes in conformity with ICE proprietary class lessons. The chef will be responsible for ensuring that the highest quality food service and experience for clients are consistently delivered.

Job Responsibilities

  • Teach Baking and Pastry recreational classes and special events
  • Demonstrate techniques and concepts in conformity with ICE lesson plans
  • Deliver clear, concise and organized lectures
  • Aid student / guest performance through observation and interaction
  • Maintain a positive, focused learning environment during class
  • Assure that classes are conducted in a manner that complies with principles of food safety, sanitation and beverage management
  • Preparation, set- up and breakdown of class ingredients and equipment

Qualifications

  • Culinary diploma or some form of formal Culinary Education
  • Minimum of 7 years culinary experience
  • Prior teaching experience preferred
  • Pastry and Baking background required
  • Flexible schedule (weekends and evenings) to accommodate ICE class and event schedules
  • Fine dining experience preferred
  • Must possess a strong sense of urgency and attention to detail
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills required
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal; strong presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to interact in a collaborative manner with other departments and teams
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft suite of products including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel

PAY: $ 160.00 per 3- to 5-hour Recreational Class / $220.00 per Special Event
