Environmental Technician, Brainerd, MN

Institute for Environmental Assessment (IEA) is seeking a fulltime entry or mid-level Environmental Technician for our Mountain Iron, MN office. If you have an energetic interest in an environmental career, we’ll train, coach, and set you up for success.

IEA, an environmental, health, and safety (EHS) consulting firm with satellite offices throughout Minnesota, is growing its Rochester, MN team. We serve the environmental needs of school districts, colleges, cities, counties, hospitals, manufacturers, and others in the region. Essential Responsibilities

  • Perform on-site inspections and assessments of client facilities to identify potential environmental, health, and safety hazards.
  • Collaborate with clients to develop and implement effective hazard control measures, safety policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct audits and reviews of safety programs, policies, and procedures to identify areas for improvement and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Prepare detailed reports documenting assessment findings, recommendations, and corrective actions taken.
  • Stay up to date with relevant environmental, health, and safety regulations, industry trends, and best practices.
  • Execute and manage EHS projects that may include lead in water sampling, radon sampling, chemical inventories, lockout tagout, confined space, compressed gas, etc.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, offering professional advice and solutions to their EHS challenges.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and other professionals to ensure effective project coordination and timely delivery of services.
  • Obtain and maintain necessary certifications needed to complete the position. Certifications include asbestos site supervisor, asbestos inspector, NIOSH 582 and Minnesota 2-Day air.
  • Work on client sites to supervise and monitor asbestos removal on behalf of clients.

Required Qualifications*

  • 2,000 hours of work experience in general construction trades, asbestos-related work, safety, industrial hygiene, or hazardous materials control. OR
  • Bachelor's degree in physical or life sciences, engineering or architecture and 500 hours of work experience in the areas listed above. OR
  • Completion of an apprentice program within the general commercial construction trades.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable source of transportation.
  • Comfortable wearing a respirator with the ability to pass a respirator physical.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

The typical salary range for this position ranges from $22.00 – $26.00 per hour. The range displayed represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade which this position falls. Individual base pay will depend on a wide range of factors including your skills, qualifications, and experience.
