Position Overview
The DMV is seeking an experienced ADA Accessibility Program Manager to lead the remediation of digital forms and documents to ensure compliance with ADA, Section 508, and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards. This role will focus on assessing, converting, and maintaining accessible Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, and web-based forms while establishing long-term accessibility processes and governance.
The selected candidate will work closely with DMV stakeholders and the website modernization team to ensure all public-facing documents meet federal accessibility requirements before the April 2027 compliance deadline. This individual will also serve as a subject matter expert and provide training to DMV staff to sustain accessibility efforts beyond the engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess existing DMV forms, documents, templates, and digital assets for accessibility compliance gaps.
- Remediate Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, and other document formats to meet ADA, Section 508, and WCAG 2.1 AA standards.
- Develop and maintain standardized ADA-compliant document templates.
- Establish accessibility governance, quality assurance processes, and remediation workflows.
- Create and manage an inventory and tracking system for document accessibility status.
- Collaborate with project teams and website accessibility vendors to ensure consistent compliance efforts.
- Provide hands-on training, mentoring, and knowledge transfer to DMV staff.
- Serve as the DMV’s accessibility subject matter expert and support long-term program sustainability.
- Prepare documentation and transition plans for future ownership by designated DMV personnel.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience implementing ADA, Section 508, and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards.
- Hands-on experience remediating and creating accessible PDFs, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and PowerPoint presentations.
- Experience conducting accessibility assessments and compliance reviews.
- Strong knowledge of accessibility testing tools and remediation techniques.
- Experience developing accessibility governance, standards, and best practices.
- Ability to train and mentor staff on accessibility compliance requirements.
- Strong communication, documentation, and stakeholder collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience supporting state government agencies or public sector organizations.
- Experience managing large-scale document accessibility remediation initiatives.
- Familiarity with website accessibility projects and collaboration with web development teams.
- Experience establishing enterprise-wide accessibility programs and compliance frameworks.
