Senior Manufacturing Engineer (Sr. ME) — Bolingbrook, IL (60440)

Position summary
Seeking a hands-on Senior Manufacturing Engineer with strong CNC machining experience in automotive production. The engineer will optimize machining processes, lead CNC programming and process development, troubleshoot shop-floor issues, and drive continuous improvement to improve throughput, quality, and OEE.
Key responsibilities
- Optimize machining processes to increase throughput, reduce scrap, and improve OEE.
- Develop, modify, validate, and document CNC programs for lathes and milling machines (vertical and horizontal).
- Lead toolpath development and cutting-strategy optimization for automotive components using CAM software.
- Specify and implement tooling, inserts, and workholding (hydraulic and pneumatic) solutions.
- Troubleshoot machining issues (cycle time, tool wear, chatter, dimensional variation) with hands-on root-cause analysis.
- Collaborate with Quality on first-piece inspection and process capability (Cp/Cpk) studies.
- Drive continuous improvement using Lean and Six Sigma methods.
- Maintain process documentation, work instructions, and standards; work cross-functionally with operations, maintenance, and quality.
Required qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent hands-on experience.
- 5 years’ CNC programming and machining experience in automotive manufacturing.
- Proficiency with CNC lathes and mills (Fuji, Mori Seiki preferred).
- Experience with CAM (Mastercam or similar) and AutoCAD.
- Strong knowledge of GD&T, blueprint reading, and tolerance stack-ups.
- Experience with CMMs, Zoller tool presetters, measurement systems, carbide tooling, and tool holders.
- Experience designing/using fixtures and workholding (hydraulic and pneumatic).
- Solid background in SPC, capability studies (Cp/Cpk), and shop-floor process control.
- Demonstrated hands-on troubleshooting and floor support experience.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience in high-volume automotive production.
- Multi-axis machining experience.
- Familiarity with ERP/MES systems.
- Lean or Six Sigma certification.
- Experience leading process-improvement projects.
