Position Summary
InspireNOLA Charter Schools is seeking a passionate, talented, and dedicated Literacy Specialist. The role of the Literacy Specialist is to provide high-quality instruction, support, and leadership to produce academic excellence in Reading and Literacy. The Literacy Specialist will lead the charge in creating a culture of reading through concentrated reading instruction, enjoyment of books, and an intentional motivation to read.
Literacy Specialist Responsibilities:
- Analyze and identify reading struggles.
- Interpret data including but not limited to standardized and additional test results for diagnosis, and instructional planning.
- Create short and long-range plans based on the network and state curriculum requirements and scholar profiles.
- Identify specific intended learning outcomes that are precise, meaningful, and measurable.
- Collaborate with other English department staff to share, study, and enhance teaching strategies.
- Compile pre-program, mid-program, and post-program data for evaluation.
- Create small groups that focus on reviewing (target lessons), application (extending skills and knowledge) elaboration (refinement, connecting ideas and concepts), and exploration (analysis and research).
- Communicate individual scholar progress to the scholar, parents, and Academic Dean.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the Reading Program.
- Communicate high learning expectations for all scholars.
- Apply principles of effective learning and teaching in instructional delivery.
- Utilize various instructional strategies to teach scholars with diverse learning backgrounds which will assist in developing the application of creative and analytical thinking capabilities.
- Demonstrate accountability, appropriate social behavior, and respect for self and others by role modeling.
- Retain knowledge of current events and incorporate those events into lessons to make them more relevant to scholars.

Salary for this position is competitive and depends on prior experience. A comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision coverage, as well as TRSL, our employee retirement contribution, is included.

Qualifications:
Position Qualifications & Competencies
- Belief in the mission and values of InspireNOLA;
- Bachelor’s degree (required);
- Two or more years of teaching experience (preferred);
- Louisiana Teacher Certification or in progress; (preferred);
- Proven success in raising the achievement levels of historically under-served students;
- Expertise in a content area and strong classroom management skills;
- Ability to work collaboratively with the school team, families, and community members;
- Desire to continuously improve instructional practices and willingness to engage in ongoing professional development;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
