Full-Time Perioperative Nurse

Busy Plastic Surgery Center in Central Austin is seeking a Full time Registered Nurse. Average 32-40 hours/week. Center is open Monday - Friday with variable schedule.

We are looking for a competent Registered Nurse to assist in all areas of our outpatient surgery center: Pre-op, OR, and PACU.

The ideal candidate needs to possess phenomenal efficiency and attention to detail and have a strong knowledge of operation procedures and patient safety. Must be a critical thinker who can anticipate the next step and act quickly in an emergency.

Job Responsibilities:

• Greet and check patients in for their surgical procedure. Includes: explanation and signing of surgical/anesthesia consent, obtaining accurate medical history and vital signs, venipuncture, other pre-operative duties deemed necessary.
• Assess patients prior to procedure (e.g. NPO status) and alleviate concerns related to surgery.
• Gather all supplies/medications needed for the surgery
• Set up OR to Surgeon specifications for intended procedure
• Assume responsibility for maintaining OR sterility throughout the procedure
• Position and prepare patient on operating table
• Pass medical instruments or supplies to Surgeon and/or Surgical Tech during the operation
• Adhere to safety standards and precautions
• Work as part of a cohesive team to deliver optimal care to each and every patient.
• Initiate Nursing Interventions and carry out Surgeon orders within scope of practice.
• Effectively communicate surgeon/staff/inventory needs to OR manager in a timely manner.
• Safely recover the patient in the Post Anesthesia Care unit following complex Plastic surgery procedures and General anesthesia.
• Clerical and administrative tasks such as: processing payments for surgical procedures, ordering/receiving surgical supplies, maintaining and/or adjusting surgical schedule as needed.
• Must be able to work well with a small team in an intimate environment.
• Must have schedule flexibility - shift times will vary depending on procedures scheduled.

Requirements:

• Current TX RN license without sanctions/stipulations
• MUST HAVE have experience in an OR setting to be considered.
• Proficient in Electronic Medical Records and use of Windows operating system.
